opinion needed, winter setup

I am hoping you guys can help me decide on a winter setup for my GT. I am looking at buying two wheels for the back and putting snow tires on for about $600, or buying 2005 16" mustang wheels with tires for around $400. Those come stock with BF Goodrich T/A all season tires. I am trying to get out of this as cheap as possible so I am thinking the 16" with all seasons is a good choice, but I am not sure if the all season tires will really be better then the stock GT's. Thanks for your help.

Aren't stock 99-04 GT's 245/45/ZR17 performance tires? Unless you're talking about the stock 05 GT cuz I dont know what they have.

Buy some decent snow tires. The stock rubber sucks on snow and ice. I don't drive my Stang during the winter. I have a Mazda B4000 X-tra cab. Pearl02.

Man, heck yeah. The stock tires are the worst on my mustang suck!!!! I would not even take the car out the drive way when its snowing or sleeting outside!! Get snow tires, or park it all winter!!!:SNSign:

IMO no .... and if you get snow tires I definitely recommend going with all 4 tires not ust 2

I got one word for you..BLIZZAK...I drive my Stang year round in Ohio. We have already had snow this year. I have two sets of rim/tires, performance summer tires and Blizzak's. They are hands down the best snow tire out there. Just incredible. And whatever you do, don't just get two. You will not be able to turn and you will wind up in a ditch. Don't skimp on safety. I don't know what your insurance deductable is, but spending a little more on tires will make your car 1000% safer in the snow. A nice Stang in a ditch or wrapped around a tree is a terrible thing to see. Be safe, not sorry.

Cool, thanks for the help. I found someone local selling 4 5-spoke wheels with snow tires already mounted. Picked them up and mounted today. Huge improvement, I actually was able to back up my driveway on the first try today.

I have Hankook Ventus V4ES 245/45 ZR19 99W tires. Are these any good? I can't find much on these tires. It says that they are all season tires on the wheel. Would it be worth getting Michelin X-ICE Winter tires, Dunlop M3's Winter tires or Kumho KW17 Winter tires. I have heard a lot of bad things on Blizzaks so I will stayaway from them. If I go with 16s my speedomitor will be off right?

for safety sake, don't buy just 2 tires for the back. there are even some shops that refuse to put on only 2 tires for winter.

get all 4 winter tires and have a better chance of living to see the next summer. this is one of those don't-cut-corners-or-you-can-die issues.

That's funny I have never heard a bad thing about Blizzak's until your post. They have been rated the best snow tire by many publications that have tested them. They are one of the top selling snow tires in Canada (they may know a thing or two about snow up there) The only bad thing I can think of is that they are so good, you become a little over confident and drive a little to fast. Even if they doubled in price I would still buy them when mine needed replaced. They are really that good.
