Opinions on These Engines?

I will be running the same HP as that first 302 after spending about $3900 TOTAL including new engine. So to me it seems over priced by $2000. It all depends on what's important to you. My car is a third car street driven and I don't beat on it but can as it has good parts in it like ARP rod bolts and such. I don't need it to drag race or be nuclear proof, just run great and very little maintenance.

Bennet Racing has an awesome reputation. I've heard nothing but great things about them. They build Don Walsh Jr's Pro-5.0 engine and they make some great Hot Street engines. I'm seriously thinking about buying a shortblock from them. They have their own custom cams, so if they say their engines make x horsepower, they most likely do.

Go get an NMRA race pages, they always have a 2 page ad in their with specials and stuff.

Bennett is a tad more expensive but well worth it. I've heard he can be..."hard" to deal with sometimes but builds some awesome motors all the way down to his base set-ups. I'd say he's definitely worth the extra coin.

It is an upgraded two-bolt main block. I run this block on my 347 motor and ran it on my 302 motor. Despite what people say this block is good for about 650rwhp. The upgrade beyond the Sportsman is the Dart block and/or FRPP R302 block.

RC I will give you a heads up from seeing their work personally on some local bracket racers. They do good work. I LIVE AN HOUR AWAY FROM BENNETT. Its in Haleyville a tiny tiny town. These guys really know their stuff. I will be going thier before summer to get a short block from them. Also from what I have seen you really get what you pay for the quality is second to none.
