Opinions? Suggestions? Help?!

Currently I own a 66' Coupe with a 302, Air Gap Intake and a 600cfm carb, shorty headers, Crane electronic ignition and a fresh rebuilt. All new front suspension, shelby drop, adj doescht shocks, front discs rear drums. 5 spd. Subframe connectors,traction bars, new leafs,etc.

It does haul ass for a daily driver, and is fun to drive.
But I came upon a 400 block at my school. Complete. Needs a rebuild though.
Say I want a long term project to do over the winter and slowly build into a street beast.

What would you guys suggest for it? Is the 400 worth it? I'm looking for something in the range of 550hp ish? Something that can go fast, real fast.

I am not sure it would even fit. There is not a lot of support from the aftermarket either. Could be done with a 408 windsor.

yeah, I think you'd be better off with the 408 too. Unless money is not an issue? Would be a unique setup to run the 400. Probably will need to hack the shock towers though.

Won't fit between the towers.

You would need to do a M2 conversion on the front end.
If you went through all that trouble though, you could fit a 460 at that point.
Then you wouldn't want a 400!

are we talking 400 modified? the engine will fit the engine bay,as this is basically a cleveland block(my 65 had a 4bbl cleveland in it at one point,) but i too feel a 408 windsor would be your best bet...

the 400 is about as wide as a 460. remember that the deck height on the 400 block is 1.1" taller than the cleveland block(10.3" vs 9.2"). the 400 will not fit the stock 65-66 engine bay, even with notched shock towers.

Start with a 351W if you want big cubes. No other choice for a 65/66 Stang in my opinion.
