What is your guys opinions on the Shelby AC Cobra 427 replicas?

I got a ride in one last night and it was freaking fassssttt, sounded so badass too and all he paid (cash though) was about 28K and its really nice, and that was brand spanking new. 28K is still a lot, but compared to a real shelby cobra, its about 1/3 of the cost.

Would you guys get a cobra 427 replica or not? please give me good reasons. Im actually considering one some time in the future ( 5 - 10 years from now)

did cobra prices plummet? will 86 grand buy you a real one?

i thought they were 150 to 300 depending on pedigree and condition.

There are a lot of companies that make shelby replicas, and from what I've read, their quality varies. Another point to consider is that these are kit cars, and the quality of the build and the parts you get depends completely on the builder. Know what you are buying and what it should be worth if you are buying one already built.

If I had it my way, I would build a Factory Five Cobra with a fuel injected 4.6: Teksid block, trick flow heads, a lopey cam and as much compression as I could reasonably do (at least 12:1). I would probably run it on E85 most of the time, and have a bottle in the back "as necessary". I would paint it inferno orange or some other redich/burnt orange type of color.

While I love the sound of old iron with a carb, a FI 4.6 with aluminum block and heads would be light and fast and still sound sweet. It would be very usable power too, with a nice flat torque curve that doesn't peak so high as a big block would.

I have heard good things about factory five kit cars. I have actually seen a few in person and can say that the fit and finish is very good.

As for one being a 1/3 of the cost its actually less then one third. I saw a original cobra go for 1.1 mil at an auction that didnt have any signifigant history and one that had actually been raced go for 1.3 mil.

I'd rather have a replica, FFR to be specific. You can mod them and do whatever you want without worrying about destroying an original and ruining the value.

Everyone has good opinions on the ff5 replicas. only thing i did notice is that, Its not for tall people. I kinda look weird in it

they are sweet looking and sound awesome... as far as fitting in one, I'm sure my head would stick way above the window...
