Ordering a new 'stang

Hello all!
First time posting here.

I am in the process of ordering a new '06 GT.
everyday car, not planning on doing too much modification. This is my return to sportscars after owning 3 SUV's in a row. The new body style caught my eye. havent owend a stang since the 80's. nice to be (almost) back

So I went to the dealership today, the salesman, besides having teeth the color of baked beans, was a bit of a tool. Here's the pricing I got. he started out $1600 higher, we beat him up a little to get to these numbers.

Tungsten gray with dark charcoal interior.
GT convertible $32,500
A/t, 17" bright alum rims, Interior upgrade, side air bags

GT coupe $29,000
A/t, 17" bright alum rims, Interior upgrade, side air bags

So, my questions are as follows:

what did you pay for yours?

do you think these prices are fair?

anyone have any inside info about deals coming up?

I am also torn about the coupe vs convertible.
opinions?

thanks for your support.

Are you talking about buying out of inventory?

You cannot order an 06 Mustang, the order banks closed a couple weeks ago.

Go to ford.com and look up the MSRP and invoice pricing for what you are looking at.

the dealer told me you can still order for a few weeks.

I was concerned that he was BSing me and would try to find a match from other dealer inventories.

maybe I should mess with him and config something wacky to see if he can actually order it.

do you have an opinion on coupe vs convertible?

I got a Great Deal on my GT! I bought it back in October 2005.
I let the car sit on the Lot for about 2 months. I kept an eye on it to make sure that no one was looking to buy it. I've got a buddy that works at the dealership that I bought mine from, and I told him to call me if anyone began asking about the car. He called me one Saturday and told me that they were having an end-of-year sale. They knocked $2500 of the sticker price, then I used my Company's "X-Plan"; which knocked off $1300. I ended up paying $27,000 for a 2006 Mustang GT; Tungsten with Red Interior Upgrade Package; it's Fully-Loaded! After all was said and done, my final Cost = $32,000.
I LOVE MY GT!!!!!!!!!! :D

My Advice: Let a car sit on the Lot for a few weeks, and the dealership will lower the cost to get it off the LOT. Dealers don't like to have cars on their lots for more than a few weeks.

I Love the Coupes; they're built for speed!
Although, I have heard that the "Verts" have been designed to ride just as quiet (within the Cabin) as the Coupes.
Personally, I like the Coupes, but I think that Verts are more Fun!!!

Gorilla, I paid less than 30k out the door for my Vert GT. As for the looks of the car, I prefer the Vert. It looks like the early convertables just like the coupe looks like the early coupe.

Whatever route you go, yo can't lose. You better hurry up !!!!!:D

Not true, the 06 order banks are closed and the 07 order banks are now open.

If your dealer has orders placed for cars 06s that have not yet been built, they may be able to change one of these existing orders to the color and options that you are looking for. But they cannot place a new 06 order.

At this point in time, why would you want to order an 06? I'd go for an 07, it's a model year newer and will be worth more in the future. There are also lots of nice new options on the 07s.

so the dealership telling me that i can order a 06 tungsten until next wednesday and can't put an order in on a 07 until like the 5th of june is BSing me. I think I am going on a quest to call as many dealers within a 200 mile radius as i can find onfords website and as them the same questions. See who the biggest bullcrappers are.

just spoke to a dealer

actually not a jerk if you can believe it. decent guy from reputable dealership. oldest and best rated for the area.

told me I can order a new pony for the next week or 2, but the noose is tightening. found a tungsten conv to match my specs on the docket already, just have to lay claim to her.

is he full of craopla? who knows?

I'm 95% going for the 'vert unless I talk myself out of spending the extra 3500.

Yeah sounds BS. Job order starts beginning of June. Trying talking to different salesperson at the dealership. Just like any group you have honest and not so honest. Try looking at current inventory, you may find an 06 they you want it. No wait! If you order an 07, good luck and keep us informed.

So 1st job is on June 5th, but does that mean i can't order one until then like he told me or just that i will have to wait until august or september to get it if i order it right now? I really don't mind waiting until end of summer to get an '07, I just think he's screwing with me trying to get me an '06 in with the options i requested, which i am not that interested in.

You can place an order for an 07 Mustang today. However, it may take several weeks before it gets confirmed & scheduled as production has not yet started.

It is standard practice for Ford to accept orders before job 1. They have to have orders with dealers to ship the cars to before production starts.
