I can't keep up with the brake problems on my '96 Sable. I need a dependable car on the road all the time, so I'm rolling out Baby. I have decent all seasons on her for now, and I have a full set of brand new rims and winter tires in storage - if I need them.

So, plated and insured, and fluids changed on the Mustang later today. Try and get the UGH-ly red Sable fixed in a reasonable amount of time. Once that is done, I'll probably drive the Stang on sunny dry days.

Nice clean stang.

I will be oiling her underneath.

Problems though. Dead battery. Changed it. Fired her up - she started right away. Then a VERY load screech and smoke. Seems the serpentine belt was starting to smoke, it wasn't moving. I opened the rad cap. The coolant looks like very hard slush. I think the coolant froze? I had a 60/40 mix in it. I think (?) the water pump isn't turning and is frozen.

I wonder if I take off the serpentine belt, and run the engine for 3 or 4 minutes,would I be able to "thaw" the engine and flush the coolant?

Ideas?:bang:

Mustang + Québec winter = bad.

Is the car in a garage if so take a small space heater and put it under the hood it should warm it up enough to thaw provided you tarp off the front to try and keep the heat in, I don't like the idea of running and stopping the engine without coolant, using indirect heat causes less wear & stress. Im suprised your mix went slushy your water content must be higher then you think for it to do that.

Well, she's alive.

Due to my previous shoulder problems, I didn't have the strength to get the belt off, so I went with plan B.

I had to use a hairdryer+electric heater+block heater while she warmed up in the sun.

I checked the rad before starting it up. When I took the cap off, ice cold Prestone shot everywhere. A lot of pressure in there.

When I started her, she belched a little carbon, and the belt squealed for a few seconds. After a 5 minute idle, it stalled going into the street. When I started again, it stalled in reverse. I drove her about a mile to get gas (I had 1/4 tank left) . No more stalls, smooth as heck...

I'm scrapping the Sable, I don't want to sink $2,000 into her.:bang:

that sucks man... find yourself an older Crown Vic for a winter beater or one of those 3.1/2.8 V6 chevy cars like a Berreta or something, those things last forever!

I'm only 40 minutes from you lol Right now it's cold outside and sunny, our roads are nice and dry the worst things are the freaking pot-holes and the left over gravel on some streets which makes taking off real hard without spinning the wheels.

Yup, lotsa big holes everywhere. I'm going to Krown this weekend to get her oiled underneath, and I'll have the 4 snow tires put on. I don't do much winter driving - between now and "the real spring" I should only put about 500 kilometres.

Car also gets washed once a week in the winter. If it's 10 degrees or warmer - hand wash. Otherwish, to the carwash.

During the small "heatwave" we had the other week, I saw lots of sport bikes, Mustangs, F-bodies and even one classic 50's car lol Man I bet people are all sitting in their summer cars making engine noises right now lol -17 today Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

hahaha i ear ya... i want in my garage and fired her up for the first time this winter... ohhh it was great to hear the MAC rumbling again... i can't wait to put the 3.73s gears in it you dont even know, i heard it changes the car completely!! SUMMMERRR

oh yeh u will love the change!!! ....... when u are crusin in 4th gear, u will be reaching to take it out of 3rd (thinking that you are in 3rd gear) when you are already in 4th... hahahha it's great...

I love my 4:10's !!! :D
