I have a fiberglass core support from a 99 mercury sable that has too many nooks and crannies to prep for paint via sanding. is there some kind of chemical we can clean it with that will etch the paint and allow us to spray over it? i thought about blasting the fiberglass with walnut shells, but the part will only half fit into the cabinet. thanks!

red scotch brite pad.
If that wont work
scuff as much as you can and apply two coats of adhesion promoter.
