So I think the new kid at machine shop kinda f'd me. I know I can't install gaskets on painted machined surfaces. I have an idea for paint removal (probably citrus based stripper, razor blades/plastic scrapers on timing cover especially). I'm guessing i should remove paint on the timing cover inside of where the water pump will mount also so it doesn't end up melting and getting into coolant/ oil. I know not to use scotchbrite/sandpaper or wheels. Just curious if anyone has any tips or ideas to limit clean up and getting contaminants into the engine?
