Panhandle Performance

A local guy had a panhandle 331 combo that ran very well for years, but I don't remember what parts he had in it.

As for victors... they are old school and without a lot of port work they aren't worth looking at IMO. Although when ported the flow numbers look good, the design of their port and the size at which it must be opened up to in order to get those high numbers makes for one lazy airflow port. There are better offerings out there. Don't get hung up only on flow numbers as there is more to making a powerful and efficient NA setup than strictly looking at them. Velocity, chamber design, port volume and shape, etc all play a huge roll in making one head/one combo outperform another.

I wonder if they can port my Pro comps.

Let me ask you this... are they really worth porting? I don't mean that as a crude statement but I've seen those heads and although they were an attempt at a cast copy of an AFR 185 they were a poor execution of it. Some of the pics I've seen on the net of their ports and machining would have me running from them... not wanting to sink more cash into them. Can they be made better with porting? I'm sure they can but to what point I don't know. I only know that you are not starting off with much of an advantage to start with so I'd assume a lot of work and money would go into making them perform to a point that would make your combo, and ultimately you happy.

I truely believe that when it comes to heads, you get what you pay for. In a combo such as yours a killer set of heads would make all of the difference in the world if they were choosen for the right reasons, price not being one of them.

Ive seen guys running around locally with there sticker on the car. They all seem to be decent setups.

I agree with killer on the victors, ported they are very good, stock not so much. There are to many good heads out there that flow way better than Edelbrocks.

Yeah oddly the Casting of the Procomps i have aren't that bad. The ports and finish looked like the Twisted wedge heads i had.
Pro Comp 210cc Flow numbers off their site.
.200 101.5 -91.1
.300 146.7 -131.0
.400 194.1 -160.0
.500 233.4 -170.3
.600 255.8 -173.8
.700 262.0 -177.0

I would need 75 cfm more on the intake port to make it AFR comparable. Same with the Exhaust. They're O-Ringed too.... Wonder who would buy em. Bet they would make a good 331 head with some boost.

I am sure you know this all too well at this point, but this a perfect example of why people gotta do lots of research before sinking money into a setup. I am not trying to slam you at all man, but for others in the future its just very helpful.

Yeah i know...well after building the bottom end and buying Trickflow R parts the budget was strained. I figured all heads that were 200cc where close. Unfortunately i built the engine before joining a mustang forum. If i would have had stangnet i would be buying boost parts now instead of buying go fast parts 2wice.:notnice:

But i have :SNSign:

Thanks to you guys i'm back on the right path. :flag:

I would agree with you. :nice:

Pro-comps suck. I dont care what flow #'s they claim. My car was 100rwhp DOWN with them on vs the 205's.
