Panhandle Performance

A local guy had a panhandle 331 combo that ran very well for years, but I don't remember what parts he had in it.

As for victors... they are old school and without a lot of port work they aren't worth looking at IMO. Although when ported the flow numbers look good, the design of their port and the size at which it must be opened up to in order to get those high numbers makes for one lazy airflow port. There are better offerings out there. Don't get hung up only on flow numbers as there is more to making a powerful and efficient NA setup than strictly looking at them. Velocity, chamber design, port volume and shape, etc all play a huge roll in making one head/one combo outperform another.

Let me ask you this... are they really worth porting? I don't mean that as a crude statement but I've seen those heads and although they were an attempt at a cast copy of an AFR 185 they were a poor execution of it. Some of the pics I've seen on the net of their ports and machining would have me running from them... not wanting to sink more cash into them. Can they be made better with porting? I'm sure they can but to what point I don't know. I only know that you are not starting off with much of an advantage to start with so I'd assume a lot of work and money would go into making them perform to a point that would make your combo, and ultimately you happy.

I truely believe that when it comes to heads, you get what you pay for. In a combo such as yours a killer set of heads would make all of the difference in the world if they were choosen for the right reasons, price not being one of them.
