I just installed rear brakes on my 98 GT. The parking brake seems to be slightly engaged all the time. When I pull the parking brake lever It immediatley seems to be engaged. My Haynes manual said there is no adjustment. What gives?
If the rotors are not overheating you are probably alright. The parking brake is adjusted by turning the pistons back into the caliper. It's not really an adjustment but you do this when installing new rear pads.
when i first got my gt my e brake was always engaged..the light was comming on at random times...i brought it to ford and they fixed it...idk what it was i forget sry
I rented the tool at Autozone and am confident the piston is pushed in all the way. I only drove it around the block though. Will it be obvious if it is overheating?
after i installed 13" rotors on the rear the e-brake cable was pulled to tight causing it to always be slightly engaged. there is really no real fix except to get a new cable. however, the cable has a ton of hangers holding it to the underbody and by moving a few of these around you can get a few more inches out of the cable. I have also noticed that some stangs naturally have a little more slack in the cable, but mine wasn't one.
