PCV and oil separator questions

I’m installing an oil separator but because of my strut tower brace I need to mount it off to the side, is it important that the hose from the PCV to separator and from the separator to the intake be equal length? Also should I keep the metal mesh under the PCV valve or remove it while running a separator?

No, the hose length does not have to be the same, and yes, keep the mesh filter under the PCV valve.
