I was wondering if there was a perfect combo out there that had a powerband From about 1500 rpms all the way up to 6 or 7000 rpms. I wanna do the swap but if im gonna do it i want power the whole way.

There are a lot of different variables in deciding on "the perfect" combo.

You would have to go bigger than a 302 to make it reasonable.

Power from 1500 to 7000.....hmmm......

To quote a line from the movie "As Good As It Gets" --- "We all want that dear. It doesn't exist."

If you're gonna build a naturally aspirated 302 that has peak power in the 6 to 7 grand range -- it's likely that it's gonna be pretty soft in the idle to 2500 range -- which is primary street driving territory. That's especially true if it's efi. What most folks do that want 400 or so 'streetable' HP is go up in displacement, and come to grips with a 1500 to 5500 spread in power.

Now - 4 valves/cylinder, variable valve timing, variable runner length intakes -- you start to have pretty amazing flexibility. But of course that stuff isn't available for a pushrod 302.

I completely agree with Michael. If you want really high rpm power, you'll lose some in the lower end...and vice versa.

Well 2500 - 6k rpms isnt too bad what setup would do that on a stock 302. Im not looking for big HP numbers im just looking for a wider powerband.

I think that your setup is gonna involve a custom cam, reguardless of the heads/intake. Your most likely gonna need a 2.02 valve head and an RPM or Holley intake. a 70mm t-bdy, 24/30lb injectors, and a 75mm maf are gonna be needed.

build for torque! hp is merely a function of torque. no replacement for displacement
