Well kinda like it states in the title, does anyone have the performer heads with a custom cam, or only off the shelf grinds. I was looking at flow numbers between the AFR 165's, and the new performers, they are really similar...

Anyone think it is possible to put down over 300 to the tires with a set of these, they will be on a fresh 306 with a compression of 10.5:1 with a 62 cc head.

opinions, thoughts etc. on this?

I swapped on ported stockers with large valves etc. a while back , i shoulda just ordered the ones i wanted then.....

thanks

Jason

I'd imagine you could hit 300 peak horsepower with those heads. Heck, you can do that with GT40P's :). What you're getting with a high end set of heads is power across the board. AFR165's, for example, are well known for having very good velocity, which promotes low end torque, and maintaining good flow at the top end for peak power. Flow numbers are a hard way to compare different heads.

Get the best heads you can get for your dollar. Then design the VERY BEST combo around the heads. That way, you wont be sorry after.

If you cant afford AFR's and can get a good deal on the Eddy's, get the eddy's, get a custom cam, and a good matching intake and run it.

The key to success is not necessarily one specific head....its having a package that is put together well.

i think i have chosen my head, that is why i ask about the numbers..... i really wish i could find some dyno numbers with a custom cam for the heads....

I figure with my performer intake, these heads, and a custom cam to utilize every bit of potential..(especially with the new longblock)... Only other thing i am planning on for my car is probably a shot of nitrous after the new motor is complete...probably gonna have it setup before new motor goes in though ;)

Based on what I learned from my combo

I have no doubt I could do quite a bit better and give up no or very little drivability if I was to do it all over again. :D

If the Edels work at least as good as AFR's then you should be able to do the same IMHO. :nice:

If you're gonna go custom

You need to be talking to your cam guy for his knowledge .............

After all ...... Your Paying For It :rlaugh:

they were closed today......lol

Has anyone heard of Buddy Rawls.... he seems to be really reasonable.... I was thinking of FTI, but i know he has all kinds of flow numbers etc on AFR's, didn't know if he put together a lot of Edelbrock combos....

any other grinders?

The Edelbrocks with a custom cam will put you well over the 300HP range with a 306 at 10:1.

now thats what i wanna hear....:D

I will lookup, and read reviews etc. of those guys posted etc... i will base my decision on the information i find... thanks for the names.... I have heard of cammotion

AMEN!

My car traps 109+ full weight, It is all about putting together a good combo. Mine is a combo of parts many people would shun and suggest against on this forum.

edelbrock heads
comp cam + 1.7s
Ported Performer

a recipe for 300+/ 330+

I could not agree more about combos that look similar when you compare the parts used but the end resusts do not look similar.

Its all about the attention to details IMHO.

A great example is in fact Mr. Snooze Man.
He has one of the nicest looking set of dyno curves of any Ford oem iron head combo I have seen.

Jason, I have an Excell file that has a few combos from these forums that I use to compare dyno curves from time to time.

I have used the charts provided by the combo owners that were posted on the forums for my source data. I did not have the numerical values for most of the charts so I had to guess a bit at the values I used to build my file.

Having said that ...............

I took John's (White Devil) and Dave's (Hariry Canary/Rootus) combos and did a simple comparison.

Again ... To John & Dave ... I had to guess at the values a bit but I don't think I am too far from the correct values. If either of you take issue with this ... Please Speak Up so we can correct any error here.

Jason, I chose these two combos due to the fact one had Edel heads and the other had AFR's.

Hope this gives you some help with your decision Jason :D
