What are the adapter plates for and do they really make that much of a difference? I'm installing my PI intake this weekend so if I'm gonna need them I want to order them now, also where can I get them from?

they adapt the PI intake with the NON PI heads. you really don't need them cause you can use some RTV sealant to seal the leaks at. search in the forums to see where you need to seal them at.

you dont NEED them, however, they make a huge diffrence when it comes to preformance... the intake ports are not even close to the same shape,, the adaptor plates smooth it all out, so there is MUCH less turbulance... they gained like 35 ish rwhp with the adaptor plates, 10-15 is the most i've heard of with just the intake.. plus you have no worries of leaking with the plates

Personally I wouldn't go the RTV sealent route, apparently a lot of people have had good luck using it, but I'd rather spend the extra cash for the adapter plates and not have to worry about coolent leaks.

I was really concerned about the intake leaking and just wasn't worth the headache of tearing it all down again if it did leak. I got the plates and I liked it alot. I can't say what it felt like without the plates because I'm the only one around here I know who did the intake swap. I'll be getting rid of mine this weekend, PM me if your interested in them.

Does this mean you are starting the headswap this weekend?

Yes sir....We are gonna start Friday after I get outa work. I'm hoping to have it finished by Sunday early in the day so I can go for a long drive to break everything in. Our local speed shop (MMR) is going to have their Dyno in soon so I should have some numbers to go with it by the end of the year or early in Jan.

Dude, are you serious? 35 rwhp for a PI intake swap with adaptor plates vs just 10-15hp for the PI intake alone? Where did you find that piece of info?

I'd say the 10-15hp estimate is pretty accurate from a SOTP feel when I did the PI Intake swap (a bit more of an improvement than the Off-Road H-Pipe). Didn't use any adaptor plates and never saw any leaks. I'm just having a hard time believing a little bit of port matching is worth an additional 20-25hp.

Those figures came from Livenoise motorsports. As to the validity of them, I don't think they had a dyno sheet. The smoother transition of the air from the intake to the heads does net some power without question, as to how much, I can't say.

No question about that - port matching is a worthwhile endeavor, but I can promise anyone here that it is not worth 20-25hp, even in forced induction apps. 5-10hp would be somewhat believeable.
$649 for 5-10hp? Money better spent elsewhere, IMHO.

MM&FF guys... i dont have the issue infront of me, but it was 30-35 ish hp..

and if you have your own intake already, you can buy just the plates for 299.00 (i emailed them and asked) and PI intakes can be had for 50 bucks

350 for 35 hp sounds just fine to me

although, i dont think it would be too hard to make your own, get some alum in the right shape/thickness you want, buy a PI gasket and a NPI gasket, and get out the pen/die grinder... it cant be that hard. but

they said they actually made a bit(5 ish hp) more power with a 3/4 inch thick plate (smoother transition) but there was clerance problems with the strut tower brace/stock hood so they went down to a 5/8(i think, might have been 1/2)... i however dont have that problem with my cowl so i think i'm going to try making my own...

Damn $300 just for the plates? I already have the intake but damn $300 thats almost a whole PI head right there. www.oemfordparts.com sells the PI heads for $355 each.

I'm not sure where you get the 5 - 10 hp from, but I know that the kit will give roughly 25 - 30 hp. I have seen dyno sheets from JUST the intake without the plates that reflect 18 - 22. I'm sure this varies due to other mods. HP/TQ doesn't come cheap, we all know this. We also know every pony counts. Anything that can be bolted on to make our cars faster is money well spent. Even a 100 - 200 CAI that only nets about 2-7 hp.

That's just MHO though. Others may not agree.

keep in mind, this is almost as good as the headswap (10-15hp diffrence) and the headswap isnt anywhere near as cheap as this... you have to buy the heads, new head bolts, head gaskets, cam cover gaskets etc... add 400 bucks to the price of the intake and heads and you should be about right, not to mention pulling your entire engine bay appart, i like this approach alot better..

True but eventually I plan on doing the headswap also just right now I dont have the money for it. Sucks though I dont have an extra $300 laying around and I'm installing my cams and intake this weekend.

The 5-10hp is just an estimate of what I feel the plates are worth over doing the intake alone. And if your numbers are right, then I guess I wasn't too far off. 18-22hp for the intake alone and 35hp for the intake with plates. So that makes the plates worth 13-17hp.
15hp for $300 isn't too bad, I guess. If someone can verify those numbers, it would be worthwhile to a lot of us.
