Well I have been watching post after post about the PI head swap..I know the motor and all needs to come out to make the install alot easier...my thinking is..

Wouldn't it be cheaper to purchase a used 99+ 4.6l motor and swap it? I know some of the newer stangs have cois on the plugs instead of coil packs so that may be something that would have to be worked around but what other things should be considered? I just dont see spending all that money and still having a high mileage bottom end and raised compression from the swap..no need to change pistons if you swap the entire motor..

I kinda wish after swapping mine, that I would have gone with the PI motor and spent a little extra cash, but however my car runs like I want it too, so thats all that matters to me.

Well the reason why I ask is bc as you can see in my sig my stang has alot of miles on it..and I mean alot..so I am curious bc I would rather swap in a fresh motor versus putting new heads on a worn motor..not to mention I also want to be able to supercharge w/out having to rebuild the bottom end..

It would be simpler and proabably cheaper. For instance, I have a 99 GT with 25k miles, Id pull and sell the long block for $1000. I also have a buddy who can get 2003 Explorer 2V 4.6's. These are the same as Mustang PI motors, but have an aluminum block. I believe he can get them for $1300

That's the boat I'm in. In the long run on a car with high miles it makes more sense to put in a new powerplant. I'm not looking to s/c for a while but you raise a good point :nice:

Much Agreed...why waist the money when you can add a little to it and get a whole new ( new to us ) motor..thats why I hope someone wil chime in with more details on what is required and such..Mu buddy has a 97 gt with a 02 motor...he blisters me everytime we race..

the motor don't come out too do the heads. all the ones i have ddone or seen done was in car. if you have high miles get the whole motor from a wrecked mustang. plus the compression on a head swaped NPI block is really high if you ever wanted to add a power adder it could be a problem.

none at all

:stupid: the fuel system is not a problem. you use the PCM and all wiring from your current NPI setup. all you replace is the motor.

BTW you also will be reusing your coil packs and plug wires too. all you have too do thats different is make a t setup so you can run both coolant temp sensors the NPI intake had. the PI intake has one sensor boss.

then after you install the motor or heads go get a tune and your all set.

Long time little see there man.. yeah I think compression changes to like 10:5 or 10:1 or something bc the non pi has flat top pistons correct? I was jsut wondering bc a guy posted pics like yesterday I think and the shop removed his motor to do the swap and I have heard it was easier to do so...what would I expect to pay for an actual mustang PI motor?

so let me get this straight. just need to sawp in the engine, then the coil packs from my old motor (with wires and plugs), T the coolant temp sensor, then get a tune and that is it?????

HMMMMMMM this looks very enticing!

now what if i wanted to go to a 4v????

Non pi motor has dished pistons. Its not that hard to swap the heads with the engine in the car. There are a few parts that are a pain, but nothing unbearable. When you go to put the new heads on, you may need another set of hands...but thats no big deal. You are gonna pay a lot more for a PI motor than just paying for the swap. Plus, you know your bottom end is okay, if you get a used PI motor, you have no idea what the condition of the heads/bottom end is in.

If you do the PI swap, you can clean up the whole engine bay, replace all the gaskets, and when you are done, the new heads have 0 miles on them. If you get a pi motor used, then its all used, and who knows what the previous owner did to it.

I vote for headswap as opposed to engine swap.
