I have a 98 GT and I have a BIG decision to make! I have $3k to spend...

ok, so I cant decide between doing a PI motor swap, or buying a Vortech S-trim off a buddy of mines car. The Vortech has maybe 6000 miles on it, and has been very well taken care of. I know for a fact it has never been to the track or seen a 1/4 mile. I would love to do that, but I think about the cost of a tune on top of it, and I have to replace my intake as it just cracked. The motor will be $1500+mine + $1000 for install. There is $2500 right there...OR I could buy the Vortech from my buddy $2000 installed, and get the livernois PI intake and adapter $450, and then tune it all up $500. Either way I max out that $3k with ONE MAJOR MOD.

My other choice is I thought about going BOLT ON CRAZY!!! PI Intake and adapter kit $450, Accufab TB and Plenum $450, PI cams $125, I already have a Bassani O/R X-pipe, Flowmaster American Thunder cat back $325, 3.73 GEARS $325...Thats $1675, and then Eibach Prokit $250, Wheels $1000.

TOTAL $2925

WHAT SHOULD I DO???

3 grand for a used vortech is a RIP. For $800 more you can get a BRAND NEW kit from MPH that comes with a tune. If I were you I would shoot for that. Or you could spray for about 1 grand and use the rest of your money for whatever :D

The $3k would instlude the Vortech, PI intake and adapter from livernois, and a proffessional tune, and install. $3k is a good price on all that.

Buy PI head swap from http://parkwayperformance.com/2vheadswap.asp for $1350. Doing this over a PI motor rasies you compression to 10.5 to 1 which = more power than stock PI motor

Comp cams for like $600

FRPP 4.10s for $200 at http://www.buyfordracing.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=461

Thats $2150, you still got $$ left
Use the rest on install or other parts

And don't forget you can always get some NO2:SNSign:

Yep add the giggle juice
get the #82015 Zex kit and you wont have any puddling problems.

okay so thats $2659
so you got $341 left go have fun

You won't be able to afford an s/c unless you are doing the work yourself. I'd go for the PI swap with comp or vt cams (that's what I did). I like the nitrous idea, but with the PI and cam swap, you get the power all the time, and it sounds soooo much better than with all the NPI parts.

its not going to "kaboom" if you set it up correctly.
Just make sure to get a bottle warmer, window switch, possibly a purge, the right plugs and the correct fuel pump, and you would be perfectly fine

You will make pretty good power with the PI intake/cams and vortech, but if you do the PI intake alone, you will still be very much restricted by the NPI cams. I would spend your $3000 on that setup, then if you're looking for more power down the line, port your heads, upgrade the hardware and install blower cams, then start saving for a built shortblock.
