Here are a few pics of the chrome BBK tuned length shortys for anyone that cares. I paid 270 for them - not bad for a cheap mod IMO. I might get before and after dynos - I havent seen a convincing test yet.

In the the current issue of mmff they put ford racing shortys on and gained 4-5 hp.

They are nice but the drawback on chrome is that they will rust. Price was ok, not great. I can get BBK ceramic coated equal length shorties for $250 delivered.

i can't tell from those pics, but it loks like you got a better set of those. my buddy & i had to clean up the welds on his alot before we put them on. our other buddy spent about 1 1/2 - 2 hours cleaning them up as we were taking a break from after taking the car apart

what was wrong with the welds? Mine were just bolted on with no problems. Was there excess weld?

yeah there was alot of excess weld on his on the inside where the flange meets the tubes. we weren't doing anything better so we put a nice port job on them before we bolted them up

and lost about same if notlittle more in mid-range.
Its cheap to buy, but expensive to install too...

But if you look at the MMFF artice those are Ford Racing shortys. They are NOT equal lenght by any means, even the design looks restrictive and are most likely the worst performing shorty out there. I would love to see some dyno numbers for the new BBK equal or "tuned" shorty headers. I've done searches but found nothing. Sure they won't come close to a long tube, but if it narrows the margin between the two, is easier to install, and I could keep my mid-pipe I would really consider it. I've seen ads by BBK that say 11-14, but I would like to see some real world numbers. 10whp would be enough for me the get them.

install is the EXACT same

some people just raise the engine a little bit, others drop the k-member. but installing them is the exact same for shorties or LT's. you don't have to do one or the other with the lt's or shorties. for me dropping the k-member is easier & thats the way i prefer to do it

That settles it for me. If you have to do the same basic install for shortys than for long tubes, it amazes me they sell any shortys at all. I'd still like to see a dyno of an equal length shorty to see the difference. Thanks for the info.

Well money is always the factor. Shorties will be cheaper because you still use the stock mid pipes.

true. but if someone doesn't want to buy a new mid-pipe they can have them cut to fit LT's. all you have to do is buy some ball & socket joints, have proper measurements taken, & then weld them on. viola, new mid pipe i did that on my last stang & it worked perfect
