you dont want to cut them if you do they will rub like hell
FWIW, there's more than one type of spring compressor available. Check your local Harbor Freight, they should have 'em.
I don't see why you'd need a spring compressor on these cars, anyway. Can't you just put a jack under the control arm and lower it slowly after everything's disconnected until the spring falls out, and then poke the new spring in, jack it back up, and bolt everything back together?
i did it that way and took a jack handle to the back of my head, and couldnt see for 5 minutes after, removing springs is not fun, im glad i have coilovers now
