Pioneer vs. Professional Product's

ill toss out my two cents. i looked heavily at those two myself when i did mine. i PM'd some folks whom had each and they all liked each respective product.

i personally would opt for the Pioneer myself - no real reason but just a gut thing. Pioneer is good stuff. were you lookin at the PP street nodular iron non-SFI unit (good to 6500 rpm)? that is what im talkin about here..... (just want to make sure we are talkin about the same product).

If youre not running a power adder, and you cant afford the Romac, then YES, get SOMETHING that at least wont mess your crank up. It's better than a wobbly one for now.

I just got through installing the Professional Products street balancer that I got from 50Resto. It look like a decent unit however the stock balancer is all I can compare it to. I will say that the clearance between the balancer and the bottom of the water pump is VERY close. Did anyone else notice this?

I have the PP SFI balancer and like it. Yes, it does come close to the water pump. I like mine because it has a removable weight. So, if I decide to get a stroker kit that is a 28oz imbalance then all I need to do is buy the 28oz weight and swap it with the 50oz weight. Or, I can go zero balance by taking off the 50oz weight. I am hoping that I will not need to buy another balancer again.

i have seen your balancer before (that vendor, etc).

i went through heck with getting mine. once i finally made up my mind (after i beat it to death searching and researching), the vendor was out. then i tried for the PP unit and LRS was backordered indefinately.

the LRS model has no spacers, from what others said. i dont like the 'one size fits all' units (personal preference). so if i could not get the LRS unit, i did not want it. i think once you get a spacer, you will be the same money or money down vs getting the LRS stuff - and i think they have decent customer service in case you need it.
now dont quote me on the no spacer required with the LRS unit - that is what someone said.

lastly, i would call whatever vendor you choose to make sure they have it in stock. i bought an ebay auction unit and waited and waited. i called and they told me it was indefinately backordered. i was a little ticked.

i have an SFI unit - i could not tell a difference between it and the stocker. i drive like your grandpa though.

as said, if the stocker has rubber coming out, i would really watch it. for a few folks, the rings have totally come apart and shot the top ring. not cool. if you start feeling vibs, park that thing ASAP. seriously.

if you live near an O' Reileys (sp?), they sell the Pioneer (for foxes, it is part number 3021, IIRC) off the shelf for 100 bucks. Michael Yount runs one (for those of ya that roam 5.0 tech, he is (IMHO) the guru in there). if it is good enough for him.....

in hindsight, i probably would have run one of those too.

Mine came with the spacer and there was no additional charge. Like I said, I got mine through LMRS.

sorry for the bad info. i had a feeling it might be wrong, as i think the part numbers on the auction part and LRS's were the same.....

I have the PP race balancer. Its really nice the only thing I don't like about it was that since you have a spacer you have to get longer bolts. It caught me off guard when I was putting my motor back together. Luckily a nearby hardware store had the longer bolts that I needed. I needed allen-head bolts because I have UD pulleys. I thought I was gonna have a problem finding the bolts but I didn't, it just scared me for a minute.

HoofnIt - Yes it does come VERY close to the water pump. All that counts is that it doesn't touch it. It clears by about 1/4" or less.
