Pipes or no pipes?

I want my exhaust to be louder and have more of a rumble... ive heard takin off the tailpipes will make it do that... sure the chrome turndowns look pretty cool but do u think i should take the pipes off? Also should i get turndowns behind the muffler or will it be fine with nuthing?

Running without mufflers will get you in trouble with "Johnny Law." If you are looking for the loudest possible setup, you might want to consider:

1) Set of Ceramic Shorty headers (you choose the brand)
2) MAC prochamber mid section
3) MAC or Flowmaster Mufflers with turn downs attached to them.

The reason that dumps are so loud is because the sound waves are bouncing off the pavement. The sound waves then reverberate off the bottom of the car and into the cabin making it loud. A few things to consider about running dumped exhaust:

1) Lots of exhaust fumes can enter the cabin if your car is stationary for long periods of time

2) Some SMOG states require you to have full length exhaust tubing that exits from the body line

3) You will be able to run wider tires without fear of rubbing issues.

4) It'll be really loud. Long trips on the highway will cause resonance to be more noticable.

DO NOT run no mufflers, trust me, try it for yorself, youll like it for 5 minutes of driving around, then youll be embarrased to be driving that thing around, its SO loud and it sounds SOOO bad, like a dump trck. You can try it, get under your car, spray some wd40 on the bolts that connect the catback to the mid pipe, and take off the 4 bolts. Move the catback out of the way alittle to open them up and fire it up, you will be flying home to put it back on, ive done it, i always thought i wanted the loudest possible exhaust, and i still do want a very loud exhaust but NOT no mufflers. If you want loud, run an o/r mid pipe, and weld some dynomax race bullets in there, that will be LOUD and have tone. Sorry if its long i just cant express to you how bad it sounds without mufflers.

I think he meant fine without dumps not mufflers??? Thats how I read it.
Now I have tried both, with and with out dumps. It was definatly louder without the dumps. Iv'e had the dumps on for about 2mths now. I think im ready to put the tailpipes back on. Vibrates too much. Sometimes it's just plain annoying. :(

I'm w/ him.

foxstang (I'm pretty sure) means with dumps or no dumps, just open muffler. Currently, I'm running stock headers, mac prochamber and two chamber flowmasters w/ the tailpipes cut off and no dumps. It's loud. I set off two or three car alarms driving through the parking lot trying to find a spot (not romping it either, this is below 1500 rpm). I liked it, but originally just cut the tailpipes off to get my new pipes welded back on. It's been 4 months and I'm tired of it now; I'm getting my tailpipes welded back up tomorrow.

Some have noted that running w/ pipes cut off after the muffler and no turn downs heats the differential fluid, which could cause problems.

I ran around for several years with an o/r h pipe and a set of flowmasters with no tailpipes or turndowns. The car was insanely loud and because I had flowmasters it droned like no tomorrow at abou 2k rpm, which matched my cruising speed on the interstate.

I got pulled over a couple of times but no tickets. Most of the cops said it sounded good but I had to have tailpipes. Never did get any.

I once had a sheriff's deputy in the car next to me tell me that my car was very loud. Loud enough that he had to repeat it 3 times before I could understand what he was saying.
