Hello all, my 95 GT with 127K on the clock has me a little worried. On the first start of the day it will knock for about 2 seconds and the knock will be gone just like someone flipped a switch. The engine runs strong and feels very healthy. I am running Castrol GTX 10w-30 and a Motorcraft FL1-A filter, any thoughts?

Sounds like your engine oil is draining out of your lifters overnight. This is probably due to your high mileage and may be an early sign of the need of a rebuild.

I agree, I once let my truck sit for a long time (month or so) and when I started it for the first time, it made a lot of noise until the lifters pumped back up, which was pretty quick.

Thanks guys, the car runs awesome with no smoke whatsoever and it doesn't do it on every cold start. It is kind of a random thing, one thing you can count on is that if it does give up the ghost it will have a nicely built replacement going in

i bet its your lifters.....

try running a bit thicker oil

If it dosent smoke at wot, then your rings are probably fine
