So the jackass who was going to sell me the Ebrock heads and rockers ended up not doing so. Found tonight a local guy changing his setup and selling his AFR 165's with pedestal mount( yeah I know) 1.6 Ford blue rockers and hardened pushrods for $1000.

Going to see them tomorrow. Says he only has 10 passes on them and is going bigger and needs to sell them. Not loving the pedestal heads, but I'm not spinning it over 6000 anyway. The heads look real clean. He only shaved a hair off them so I'm guessing maybe 58cc as the pedestal ones were 60cc out of the box. First choice was the TFS 170's. Going to mate this with the TFS1 cam. Stock bottom end.

he just pulled them off and didnt clean them up

And some cash

Personally I'd skip 165s unless emissions are a concern. Just MHO

Depends...yeah not going to make killer power but way better than gt40's,etc. Still capable of making 300+rwhp. Good price also if they check out

The 185's have 2.02's and wont clear the stock pistons without notching and I'm in no mood to start notching pistons. They'll flow better than the Ebrocks I was getting.

Fair enough. It all comes down to end goal. Sounds like they're good for what you're wanting

We all want more but it's about how much we can squeeze.

For a basic 302/306, I think the 165's are a decent choice. FWIW, my pedestal mount 1.7 have been going to redline for years now w/o problem. Of course, that's in an iron head. You still looking at the tfs1 cam?

I've never had an issue with pedestal mounted rockers. They bolt up with no fuss and unless use plan on spinning the engine beyond 6500 RPM there's really no issues to speak of.

Not to mention the Ford Racing Roller Rockers are quality pieces and clock in at almost $450 new.

I don't think you'll be disappointed.

that depends on the work done to them, but i agree. hopefully you can get them for closer to $800. as for the pedestal mounts, no big deal there, they work just fine.

If the heads are in no need of machine work, then $1k is a good deal. The cheapest 165 heads I have seen go for about $1320. The cheapest I have seem the frpp rockers is about $412. Then another $100 for the pushrods (May or May not work), that's over $1800 new w/o shipping, so close to half price.

In my opinion unless your dead set on them i would spend 200 more for brand new twisted wedge from summit. Will give you room to do whatever you want with them later on plus they will be a stud mount rocker setup as you know. Also you would end up with a 2.02 intake valve like the 185 with no piston to valve issues if you stick with the tfs1. Thats what i stuck in mine as well to keep it drivable and simple with the heads knowing they work with it . Jusy playing the devils advocate here its only my .02

With rockers.....not really. I've seen them go for $800 without them, so he's right in the ballpark.

too late. bought them yesterday. Heads just need a little clean up The rockers look brand new and so do the pushrods . I think $1000 for these heads that are $1400 new, then add the rockers for $400 and the pushrods for $100, I'm happy with what I paid.

I could easily resell for $1200

Hoping to get to it over the next two weekends. Just need to get some odds and ends like coolant, oil and filter for a 50 mile oil change, some assembly lube and more thread sealant. I'm very meticulous and tend to take my time.

Gonna be a full couple of days with the fuel pump install and HCI change, Trying to get a hookup- the guy I bought the heads off has a warehoue with a lift. Really good guy- we talked for about an hour. He's building a turbo coupe and we know all the same guys @ UPR, Thunder, and other shops. That will come in real handy when it's time to swap the VB and install trans cooler.

I'll try and get some pics posted .
