Plastic Intake Manifold

A friend of mine recently purchased a plastic upper intake manifold from a guy that was parting out his wrecked mustang. The intake has Barely Legal Motorsports stamped on the top of it. Neither him or me have heard of this company before and I couldn't find any information about it online. It bolts directly ontop of the stock manifold. Has anybody ever heard of this upper intake or company?

Probably just a knock-off of that polymer intake that Comp sold through Summit and Jeg's awhile back, which I think they stopped carrying. The intake's only nice feature was that it supposedly made changing out valve cover gaskets easier; aside from that, it sucked, because you're still flow-limited by the stock lower intake (unless of course you port it), and you lose a lot of low-end grunt.

I wouldn't mess with it. :notnice:

Have the stock lower ported and use that upper, and then go kick butt on the high priced intakes. Don`t need grunt when racing, your above 4k all the time.

Depends on how he intends to use his car. If it's a track-only car, then yeah, I agree ... although it'd still be good to have some bottom-end to get things moving off the line, unless you're going with forced induction. But if you're planning on using this on a street car, not for street racing but just for cruising around and spirited acceleration and such, dropping a lot of bottom-end out will make the car feel like a total dog.

There are MUCH better intakes and setups out there, either way. I'd sooner go with an Explorer intake than one of those plastic doohickies, myself.
