Plenum results on the way!

im disaponted that they didnt test them against a ported plenum with a 70mm tb, and that the trickflow wasnt included. o well.

i know.. you can't get all of them right? there are just too many combinations. but like i said from my experiences the best gains i've seen so far were the 75 Accufab TB and C&L plenum. I wonder what kind of gains there would be with an Accufab 75mm TB and Accufab plenum with tune.. Hmmm, makes you wonder.

That would not be a fair comparison. Just because C&L recommends a 75mm TB and the Accufab recommends a 70mm TB do you really think the C&L would benefit from the 75 while the Accufab wouldn't?! No matter how you conduct a test like this there will always be doubters. Fact is, this is the most fair, scientific back to back testing you have seen. Same day, same car, same supporting parts, same conditions. Do I think a 75mm would have show gains? Probably. But all the plenums would have. So this test allows you to compare them fairly, with the same throttle body. Matt is not made of money and to do this test again with the 75mm throttle body would have cost twice as much as it did. Not to mention the time involved.

I guess you can't please everyone. Now I know why you don't see many tests like this. No matter how hard you try to make it fair, you will have your skeptics and doubters.

Take the test for what it is, a back to back to back fair comparison of plenums with EVERY other part the same. We were not testing different combos. If you did that, you wouldn't know what gains were from the throttle body and which were from the plenum.

Guys, I did the best I could with what was offered and what my budget would allow.

I can't afford to buy every part then pay for the dynos to boot.

Even though dynos are cheap on Saturdays ($45 per 3 pulls), that would have been over $450 just for the dyno time. The plenums were all donated either by manufacturers or individuals. They were all new.

Take my results and make your own decisions.

I was just trying to make the FAIREST and not necessarily the most COMPREHENSIVE test to date. I have no financial interest in the outcome in the test, so I can report the plain facts without fudging the numbers.

What you see is what I got. Period.

I'm happy to have been given the opporotunity to do this for the Mustang community.

Awsome job :nice: I love to see real world, unbiased results!

Thanks for your efforts Matt...

Hell, I didn't know you were paying for this. Damn that's pretty cool of you. Need some cash to offset you time? I'm sure we can get a few guys to help out. :nice:

Good test, I am still happy with my Dragon Plenem and the 2 MPH gain and ET that is .231 lower after I installed it. The Dragon that I installed was pretty rough on the inside, so I ported and polished it. I am sure the porting and polishing was worth a few extra HP :nice: I will run my car on the dyno soon, and see what kind of improvement it made on my car.

TacBear - How did you P&P your plenum? Mine was rough too. When do you expect to dyno? It seems yours made more TQ than the one in the test due to previous quotes (as did bg00gt). What are your mods?

Intsalling mine soon.

This test was done with me knowing that I was going to end up spending some of my own money and donating my own time.

I don't want to get paid for this, that's not why I did it.

Thanks for the offer, but I just wanted the raw truth on a typical car.

My mods until yesterday are in my sig, except for the ported stock plenum. I went back to a new stock untouched Ford plenum.

I was really surprised to make 257 with it, but I made 260 with the Modular Depot P&P plenum. This was consistant with the same results that I got when I tested the stock plenum with the P&P one. I know it's repetitive, but I'm amazed with the 3hp consistancy! I wish I would have had the time/money to bolt the Accufab 70mm Throttle Body to Brandon's Ported and polished Ford plenum!

Ported and Polished with a dremel moto-tool. I also "knife edged" the divider.

My track results were after the P & P Dragon Plenem, Steeda LCA's, Aluminum D.S. and offset rack bushings.

im pleased with Matt's effort on doing this dyno. Bottom line all plenums offer more hp than stock :spot:
Amen.. THANKS MATT (your words earlier about service for the 'mustang community' make me feel like i'm in an automotive fraternity). I had already risked it and bought my plenum, but i'm happy with the results you got anyways.. I think they are all good products.. all stangs are going to react a little differently to mods and this goes to show there is not really much risk in buying one over the other. Its your choice from these results which t/b to match with which plenum you bought.

I'll be going accufab 75mm w/ my dragon;)

the question that I have is as follows:

if the Accufab team recommends only a 70mm Throttle body.. and its proven that a 75 mm throttle body works better on the C&L and Dragon.. then wouldn't we be making more power for going with the Dragon and a 75 MM Throttle body.. (I picked Dragon because they were #2 on the comparision)

What I mean is we saw Accufab's peak power.. but with the Dragon and C&L it's proven that we can get another 3-4 HP out of the combo by upgrading to a 75mm Throttle body??

unless Accufab's plenum gets more HP with a 75mm Throttle body?

That is entirely possible, but I didn't have the time or money to do a Throttle Body test. This was the best I could do with what I had.

We can hope that someone will duplicate this test with a 75mm TB, and we can also hope that they report with the same integrity....

Matt

good job Matt.
I believe the Accufab gives the most power by this test. Add a 75mm TB to all three and do the same test, and it only makes sense that the Accufab still makes more power w/ a 75 mm than the others w/ a 75mm TB.

Matt wasn't your previous test like this on the ported plenum ?

BTW - who is doing your dyno's ? Is it in Lewisville ?

Matt-

Not trying to knock the test.. I'm ready to buy and I'm trying to figure out which to go with... also you guys are mentioning that buy adding a 75mm throttle body to these tests would increase the power.. but again Accufab has stated that their 70mm Throttle body should be used with their Plenum. I would think if their 75mm made more power, why wouldn't they recommend that one

Either way, I have a 75mm Throttle body, and I have to pick which Plenum to order.. It's between the Dragon or the Accufab (Now seeing this comparision) I'm just worried I'm going to pick the wrong one!! :bang:
