Poll: Luxury vs. Performance

So which do you lean towards?

I'm with many of these guys in luxury and comfort over performance for a daily driver. I am about to hopefully pick up my new daily driver this week. Just bought an 02 Audi A4 1.8T 5 speed in dolphin grey pearl. Its everything I could want for a daily driver- heated black leather seats, 5 speed manual, AWD, a/c, sunroof. I love driving a manual so I had to make sure I found one in stick. I'm currently rockin a 93 saturn 5speed and its just not cutting it anymore :D Then for the weekends, I have the 347 stroker 92 Mustang for the need for speed :nice: Unless I decide to sell it come spring time for a 600cc sportbike- R6, cbr or gsx r.
 
I'll admit that a lot of my decision has to do with my finances and what i know is realistic. In a perfect world i'd have my car built to do anything from race the 1320 to road race to cannonballing coast to coast with a killer sound system and GPS...but that's beyond out of my (most peoples) budgets.

To sum it up, at least as far as my Mustang is concerned....i drive that car for the experience. I don't want a stereo taking away from the rumble of the exhaust, i don't want windows rolled up in the summer blocking out the sound either. I don't want super soft suspension because i wanna feel the road beneath me. That's entertainment to me and why i own my car. It's gotta touch all my senses or it's just not complete.
 
My friend will be selling his 2005 Infiniti G35, 30K miles (under 40K but not sure the exact number) 4 door, 6-speed, Silver over black. I really might buy it off him and would suggest it for you, but it's a RWD not an AWD version.
 
As I get older I find myself preferring luxury and fixing all the crap I did to my car when I was younger. I put hard racing seats in my car 3 or 4 years ago, they hurt my back now, I'm going to be putting softer seats in it when funds permit.

I am getting into the 300+ hp luxury cars also. How can you knock it? I have used tom tom's and Garmin and they work, but look terrible and will never compete with factory or built in. My friends fox has a built in dash navi now, touch screen etc and it is priceless. Got us around SC in traffic.
I agree. I bought my wife a Tom Tom for Christmas and while it is a cool gadget I don't care for having it sit atop the dash. I'd planned on buying one for myself but I figure I'll wait until I get a car with built-in NAV. I really like the SRT-8 Chargers. I plan on keeping both of my Mustangs but I would love to have one of these as my daily driver.
 
The way i feel about it is when i step into a Mustang i want to feel like i'm in a mustang. Loud, not smooth ride, firm seats, etc. Pretty much i want everything to feel, look, sound, and ride like a performance car should. For instance, like the old muscle cars do. I don't like luxery in Mustangs. I don't want countless options such as touch screen, tom tom, heated seats, Voice comands, sell phone holders, etc. I'd actually prefer if there wasn't a ashtry or cig lighter let alone cup holders. I want the car to be exciting even when your sitting in it. You shouldn't be drinking a pop while driving anyways. If you get to much comfort you now are driving a caddy. Which totally gets you out of the mood of driving a Mustang.
 
Hmm I understand where your coming from, but I have all that stuff now and even some comfy 01 leather seats, but can say having twice the luxury would be twice as nice. Remember even being smooth and quieter inside, you still can throw the car around and enjoy it.
 
I can't stand things suction-cupped to my window. I would either need to have it hard mounted...or come factory. I prefer factory.


I HATE my GT as a DD. Sure it has nice seats, A/C and a decent stereo, but i commute 26 miles each day in it and hate driving stick. It rides rough (compared to other cars it does but for a Mustang it's soft). I can't put anything in the trunk. I've tried to go pick up friends from the airport and need to borrow a car because their luggage won't fit into the opening of my Mustang. None of my friends can fit in the backseat. My girl friends hate it because it hurts thier boobs over bumps. I can't drive it in the wintertime.

Don't get me wrong, on a nice summer Sunday i love to go waste half a tank of gas with it....but just trying to live daily life with it sucks a fat one.

I haven't driven the 5.0 in 4 years...but don't get me started on that. My GT is like a caddy compared to that car. The suspension is so stiff. It handles awesome, but uncomfortable to ride in. I could never DD that car again. It will be my weekend toy.

I'm selling my GT to buy an Infiniti G35x. I can't wait :nice:

I'm with you. I am from the school of been there and done that. As a DD, driving through S.Florida traffic all day long, I want to be comfortable. For the amount of times I will use the performance, it is not worth losing comfort.

For performance, that is a weekend car for me. Try driving my '67 around for a week or so, and you'll beg for creature comforts.
 
I am pretty much of the same mind as most of you guys, the older I get the more I want some of the creature comforts of new cars.

Don't get me wrong I love my 88 because it is exactly what I want a fox coupe to be. No power windows, locks, mirrors just the a/c and radio. But I also don't DD it anymore. And when I was using it as a DD it was a whopping 3 mile drive to work.

My wife drives the Mach as a DD and pretty much loves it. It saves on gas when people are going out lunch cause no one wants to ride in the back seat (or can fit for that matter). We used to use it to make our long trips to GA and TN but that is now a thing of the past.

We didn't get what most people would consider a traditional luxury car. Instead we got a 2003 F350 Crew Cab FX4 truck. And I have got to say it is nice to have 8 way power seats that are heated(just in case), heated mirrors so you don't have to wipe the dew and such off them, adjustable pedals, more room in the cab than I think that I will ever need. Damn thing even has a moon/sunroof in it. And plenty of power. It has a little turbo lag off the line but when it gets into boost it got a lot of pickup.

And I was of the same mind as ryan and most of the younger guys when I was between 21-25. Who cares about amenities and comforts. Fast cars with loud exhaust and with as much weight removal as I could do without removing interior panels. Sound deadener, metal dash frame, sway bar, foglights and bracket, a/c, hood insulation all gone. Since I don't have that particular car anymore I don't regret it too much but i am sure that whoever owns it now probably does. From now on gutting interiors and all that stuff will be left only to cars that will become track only.:ban:
 
It's funny I was telling Blackened88lx on here that I hate being uncomfortable which is why I plan to upgrade the car to be nicer. I like the whole package. I just would love to see a car run a mid 10 down the track, and then he opens the door and has soft leather seats, great stereo, navigation, and its quiet (ish) and comfortable.
 
It's kinda the reason i like the new GT-500, Z06, and 03/04 Cobras.

In stock form, they are as docile as can be...but would honestly run circles around most cars out there on the street. They all have cozy seats, ice cold A/C and are just comfortable as hell.

That's why i love modern muscle. I know a lot of guys hate how much of a pig the new Mustang has become, but i'm in love with how much it DOESN't ride like a Mustang.


But then again, i guess that goes for any new car. Cars have come a LONG way since our foxes rolled off the assembly line. I bet in 20 years from now, cars like G37's, CTS-V's, Z06's and GT-500's will be called "Crapboxes" compared to what we are driving around then.
