Hey everyone...

my dad has an 04 mach 1, and he wants to remove the pony in the grille but the bolts require a special bit to remove them (they hold the bracket to the grille frame..) where can i find that bit? or how can i remove them otherwise?

thanks

my guess is that its a torx head, you can pick up torx head bits or screwdrivers at any auto parts or hardware store.

nah, its not anything normal, it looks like a star bolt, but with a post in the middle of it- seems to have some like anti-theft type head..

Sears hardware sells sledge hammers.

Actually the tool you need is called a "tamper resistant torx bit".

Good one. Its beyond me why people remove these things I like mine and would neve consider removing it. Doesn't the MAF have the same kind of bolt?

It is a safety torx, which is a torx bit just with a hole in the middle. If you have regular torx screwdrivers like me, then just use a small drill bit (small enough not to mess with the torx slots) just big enough to cover the post in the middle and drill it down. Then You can just use the regular torx screwdriver. My Stock pony only had one in it anyways, I guess it was friday when they put mine on because the other hole was empty.

My MAF didn't have those kind of torx screws? Mine had bolt head screws. It amazes me the kind of differences in our cars, even the same year models.

I've considered taking the pony out for the stealth look, but EVERYBODY I've talked to says not to. Weird, eh?

I just broke mine off? Drilling would be the best option if hes putting something else in its place (IE CDC's Stars and Stripes or that one companys flame pony)

Question.

I was thinking about buying the Stars and Stripes pony for my car for 4th of July only. I would just put it on for maybe 2 weeks around the 4th.

Anyway, does it come with the pony only? or the entrie post so i can just swap ponys? I have the Mach 1 grill in my car. I don't want to be prying the pony off the mount to swap them around...although i could just buy a 94-98 one of ebay for $5

It's a T-25 torx security bit that you need. I just bought a whole set of bits (8 or 9 of em) for $10.00. The MAF is a T-20, I believe...but, as was stated, these parts vary from year to year, sometimes month to month...
The pin in the middle of the bolt opening prevents anyone without the security bit from removing your running horse. I guess they didn't figure that they'd start selling these bits at every hardware store, auto parts store and flea market in the country!

Its just the pony, Honestly if you wanted to do it TEMP, I'd suggest some 3M if youre too cheap to buy the torx bits? I superglued mine on If youre stealing it youre taking most of the grille with you
