Possible Ford/GM merger!?

Now that would be interesting to see how they would do that and what cars that would affect.

The days of the Mustang/Camaro wars would definitly be over unless they still build both or just leave it as is since the true winner is currently already in production. :D

It makes total sense, they would only have to tool up for the Mustaro.

Boy, the Automotive news is sure back-pedaling now. Both sides (GM and Ford) have come forward on T.V. stating that there will never be such a merger.

Yesterday's word that General Motors and Ford had held brief talks on possible cooperation were followed quickly by abject silence from the automakers, and a follow-up story noting that the talks went nowhere. Automotive News had reported in its Monday morning edition that the companies' CFOs, Fritz Henderson and Don Leclair, had met in July and talked briefly about working together on unspecified projects or areas of cooperation. By midday, the major media were running headlines about a possible merger. But by day's end, predictably, the news had settled out on the Wall Street Journal's version, which indicated that whatever talks took place were over and no more were planned. The Journal added that both companies are settled on pursuing their own turnaround plans independently, despite GM's ongoing talks with the Renault/Nissan alliance. Ford recently hired new CEO Alan Mulally to lead its second turnaround. The company is expected to lose up to $9 billion this year as it suffers the steep declines in the pickup and SUV markets.

Worms indeed....

I'd take the same setup (chassis, driveline) but give the engien a larger piston diameter. This more than anything would increase airflow resulting in better numbers but still offering the refinment of a "Modular Architechture."

Loaded for sure. There is something to be said about refinement, depends on where you're coming from I guess. The only difference is Ford applied all that onto a nice V8 motor and refined it over the last 11-12 years where as those 4cyl kids are still in the same sandbox.

Cheby of course is still somewhat low tech and it feel like it too, especially in their 6's. Ford has some nice 6's and 4's available to them but now that they have those solid powerplants they need to make some competetive power out of them (marketplace wise).

Final point on it though... I certainly wouldn't give up my 4.6 3v for a 5L after having this one for a while.
