possible to stroke a speed density motor?

Im trying to get info on this, ive read so much that says you need mass air. But ive run into one person in another forum that claims to be this Ford mechanic (retired) and says that you mustang guys stroke speed density mustangs all the time. Im sure it could be done with some serious coin and a tweecer? but im getting frustrated and need some more ammo i guess. i will say that im not a mustang owner , but a FSBronco owner that did a 351wswap so im pretty compitent in this area i feel. When you start making major changes in the airflow through a Ford speed density system you can plan to have problems. These changes would include things like heads, cams & power adders.

You probably could make a stroker work with speed density, but the dyno tuning & custom chip would cost more than a very nice Mass Air conversion that would work great without a lot of fuss & bother.
 
You can do it. You can put-in larger injectors if need be. Heads and intake are no problem. The problematic issue with SD is lack of vacuum, so long duration cams will be a problem. If you change to 24 pounders, I doubt you would even need a tweecer.

I have a feeling you're referring to me as the retired ford mechanic (on the other site) who say's you can run a stroker with SD. The fact is you CAN. I ran a 347 on SD with heads, intake, cam & all the other goodies as well and the motor ran very well. The key lies in the cam's valve events. Keep to high lift short duration cam's and you'll have no problems. ( I didn't). My only slight mistake was I pushed the cam specs a bit to far and had to run a little higher idle than calif smog would let me (A**holes)

There's people who run blowers with SD and have excellent luck, and at 1 time they did make the Tweecer for the D1A SD puter. Mater of fact, theres someone now on 50tech who's using a tweecer with SD and is finding alot of usefull info on tuning techniques.

ok so if i have the proper cam, the stock ecu would be able to handle the larger displacement of a 393 vs the stock 351? because i thought that the ecu runs off of preset tables and has no way of correcting . :shrug:

Yes, if you have the proper cam, it will run just fine. Yes, the ecu does have preset tables, but as I said, they can be modified some with FP, timing, and with a tweecer or equiv you can do much more to more key area's that really need finer tuning/modifications.

I came real close to buying a tweecer R/T a few yrs back just to see how far I could push SD and not have issues, but plans changed (calif Smog BS), so it was cheaper & easier just to go MAF and then not have to fiddle so much. It was fun while it lasted and I proved many people wrong who said what I did was basically impossible and would cause the motor to run real bad. Sorry to bust their bubble :p
