This past weekend I installed an Edelbrock Performer 5.0 and a Ford Racing 65mm TB and I'm having a couple problems. I believe the timing is off and that is what the cause of the following problems are. First, there isn't as much power, it just seems to hesitate, also it sometimes struggles to stay on and occasionally when I give it full throttle it will make a loud POP sound. Like I said, I think it's the timing, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

+1 on the dizzy and v leak :nice:

If you've never done an intake swap

You may not know this tid bit of info

You M U S T run the lower bolt torque sequence 3 to 6 times before
you will obtain an even tightness between A L L bolts :)

also :D

After a couple of heat cycles ... you W I L L find a few bolts that
have lost their correct tightness due to the gasket compressing a
tiny bit more :(

Soooooo

After a job like that ... its always a good practice to look
E V E R T H I N G over you have hosed with that pertains
to the project real good after a couple of heat cycles ;)

I'll take the upper intake off next chance I get and make sure everything is good.

I've recently noticed what appears to smoke coming from my exhaust when I give it some fairly heavy throttle. It doesn't smell like burning oil or coolant. I've never smelled anything like this before, it's kind of sweet smelling. Gaskets?

My CEL is on also. I'll have to take it to be read, but I'd imagine it's something to do with vacuum lines. Maybe I just hooked it up incorrectly?

Sweet smelling is a telltale sign of coolant. Did you use 4 studs in the corners to guide the intake down? That makes life much easier, since it'll go down straight, and helps keep the intake gaskets from shifting. I'm betting one or both of the gaskets shifted, and you have a leak between the intake and the heads, so you're getting unmetered air, and some coolant into the intake passages. That would cause both issues you're having, if you've verified there's no other external vacuum leaks and the timing is set correctly.

Sounds like these things were not present before you did the intake swap

Color of smoke aside ... seems like something is hosed :(

You are just gonna have to tear into it and have a look see :)

Good Luck :nice:

do you have the filter screen "mesh" beneath the PCV valve, on the back side of the lower intake?

mine managed to drop out one time while it was off, it would blow smoke under throttle until it was replaced.

This is obviously not the cause of the CEL or your other issues.
