Potential modifications list for 96 GT- would appreciate any feedback good or bad.

I have been doing some research regarding aftermarket parts for my 96 GT convertible I will be getting in April. Here is a list of parts I think I want to go with, but I would appreciate any feedback.

Exhaust:
Pypes shorty headers
Pypes catted x-pipe
Pypes Violator cat-back

BBK intake
BBK 70 mm throttle body

Steeda Tri-ax shifter

Powerslot rotors, front & rear

Ford Racing Suspension kit (M5400)

dump the shortys for long tubes if you wanna make power, also i dont think slotted/drilled rotors help much in my experiences.

I was told that long tubes on a 2V motor would hurt the bottom end power. What would be your suggestion for the best long tube exhaust combination?

Who ever told you that is misinformed. Longer primarys promote longer low end torque, so don't worry about it. If you want to make the most power the cheapest, get long tubes, an aftermarket H or X pipe, a PI intake and PI cams. The upper intake and throttle body don't make much difference. I bet you could see nearly and extra 50hp at upper rpms with just these parts.

4.10 gears will get you moving and into the power curve better.

My advice.

Forget all that until you've done a headswap. Especially if you can get the new Trick Flow Heads and some PI (or better) cams. The gains would be unreal on a non-PI car.

definitely do something with the heads..

as far as exhaust...get longtubes! I am kicking myself for not getting them yet! If you want shortys...I will sell you mine so that I can get longtubes..

bottom line...get longtubes!

I didn't get longtubes because I heard they bottom out alot, and you need the matching midpipe = more money. If your not taking the heads off their a real pita to install.

496 horses without longtubes I would be damn happy with that.

It depends on which ones you look for...and I don't believe it is the longtubes that bottom out...it is the midpipe...so you want ones with a flat design over round?

I think that is correct...please feel free to correct me anyone..

Thank you...I wanted to put them on when I got my blower...but 1200 was too much more for headers, midpipe, and labor..

sometime in the future...should add at least 20rwhp...

It would be nice to be over 500 just to say I've got 500 Thanks for the info, maybe will get some longtubes when I get my forged bottom end now. :OT: O I'm loving your hood and front bumper I have the same hood and used to have the same bumper except it ended a poor deers life, may he rest in peace. I think I'm going with the cobra bumper instead.

long tubes ftw! Im polishing up my set of PI heads (only exhaust of course) and im port matching the intake, but you should do the PI swap, i did the cams, and it was great, now im going to finish it up! The long tubes are a bitch to install, i had to drop the whole K-member to get in there correctly.... but the power band and sound was awesome, i have a youtube of my car with a stock catback:

I have a friend who has the PI head swap and he told me to do that instead. He bought his from ebay. Is ebay the best place to get the PI heads or is there somewhere else I should look, and what is a reasonable price for them?

Looking back on my experiences with my 97, if I was starting from scratch again and had some coin set aside, this is what I would do, in order, assuming HP and the thrill of driving was my priority:

- headswap and improved cams (assuming you want to stay NA)
- gears
- short-throw shifter
- then exhaust

The intake, brakes, suspension, etc can all wait.

good call...and I would throw a good tune in at the top as well...

If you can wait about a month and a half i will sell you my P.I. heads and cams. Im getting trickflows. PM me if your interested. I personally... and currently am... buying all my intake side before i worry about exhaust side. You really dont need that much better exhaust if your just going P.I. maybe if you were cammed. Plus you can buy exhaust used for cheap. Because people are ALWAYs changing their setup. If youve got a budget buy intake side and peice meal the exhaust as you go. I'd just delete your cats if your that worried about flow.

Oh .. .and ive heard ALOT of bad things about Pypes so i would avoid them like the plague if i were you

My friend has the Pypes X pipe and he's always complaining about fitment. But then again its hard to have a full exhaust that won't have some issues unless you buy one of the more expensive setups
