Power Impressions of 5.0 5sp Vs. 4.6L 5sp

I had an 88GT 5 speed w/2.73s, sold it and got the 98GT 5 speed w/2.73s. Both were stock and seemed roughly equal in power to me at the time. (Both needed gears desperatly.)

when i had my 00 gt it felt stronger on the high end of the rpm band and my 93 felt stronger on the low end

I have an 88 SSV coupe and I have recently purchased a 99 GT. Both are 5spd cars, and both have a different feel to them. The 88 feels faster as long as the rpm's are under 3500, but get up to 3500 and above in the 99 and look out! The 88 feels faster because it is smaller and lighter with it's power coming in at lower rpm's. The 99 has it's powerband at 3500 rpm and above, and during everyday driving I don't think the normal driver is taching each gear out to 4 grand, because when you do in the 99, you will eat up real estate in a hurry. The best I have ran my 88 down the track has been a 14.56 @ 95 mph, at Beech Bend. After driving my 99 since November, I think it can beat that time pretty easily, due to the better top end the 99 feels like it offers. But, we all know what opinions like....

I test drove an '02 GT convertible yesterday. The Gt was a 5-spd and my LX is an AOD. My first impression was that the 5-spd felt a little slower in a WOT blast. If course i understand that one is a fully loaded GT vert and my LX weighs around 3200 pounds with me in it.

The 5.0 just has more down low grunt. Nail it off the line and you get sucked in the seat. The GT was a more refined top end feel. The higher the engine revved the harder it seemed to pull. Of course my 5.0 is not stock but it just felt a bit nuttier through the RPM range.
