Hey guys, im a proud owner of a 92 2.3, and i'm thinking about buying an 86 5.0 t-top.
Just wondering what the stock power came on these, and if there was any better years for 5.0's?

asking price is 2200, but im going to try to get him to 18 or 19.

200 HP @ 4000 RPM
285 ft/lb @ 3000 RPM

Still a damn good engine, and you can upgrade it like any other 5.0. I just pulled out my Stock 86' 5.0 with 150K on it, and it still ran perfect.

Bang on. The problem with the 86 is the heads. They were upgraded in 87. The other issue is no fly cut pistons. So your aftermarket head choices are limited with out getting valve reliefs cut into the pistons.

I beleive the upper intake is more restrictive and the throttle body is smaller in addition to the difference in the heads and pistons.

The two guys above are correct, The 86' has some restrictive parts i.e. Heads, TB, Intake.. But If you can get the car cheap, and it runs good, you can always put E7 heads on it, and aftermarket TB and have your 225hp+ My .02$ Plus I just love 4eyez

A picture says a 1000 words. The style factor alone is worth not spending too much time worrying about the few HP that the 86 motors were down. Like has already been said, all you have to do to bring it up to post 87 HP specs is install some E7 heads and a later upper intake. Both can be had for cheap to absolutely free since so many poeple have this stuff taking up space in the garage after swapping on aftermarket stuff. If its a solid car, jump on it. They are getting harder and harder to come by.

Why,
If you dissagree, share your opinion with us....Personally I have had an '88 a '91 a '96 and an '86 ( currently) and the '86 is definatly my favorite.

What i like about the 85-86 is that they look meaner then the areo style. I also like the fact that the 5.0L i drive looks a lot different then the 5.0L everybody else drives. I love the front ent on the 82 interceptor. It looks bad a$$. it is just so tall and all black looks menecing.

Personally i'd stay away from the car because of the pistons. I currently have an 86 302, which I bought being told it was a 90, and now I can't use aftermarket heads without getting valve reliefs cut into them.

i always thought there was 1 set of heads from the aftermarket that you could use without fly cut pistons.
Also if you ever needed a reason to do a stroker kit just buy the heads you want then explain to the wife that you need to get stroker kit done so that you can use the new heads you bought.

the trickflow heads are your best bet as you won't have any ptv clearance issues.
or you can put on a blower for some good numbers.
