Hello all,

This is my first post here. So please bear wqith me.

I'm interested in getting a Fox body Mustang. Given the fact that I graduated high school in '93 and the GT was the car to have back then I'd really like to get one. It makes sense from my standpoint because it has room for me and the family if It needs to.

Anyway, the reason I'm writing this is to ask about prices. I've just been looking for just a week. KBB, NADA and Edmunds are suggesting that prices for these should be less than $4000. I havne't really seen any cars that fall in this price range. Yes, a lot of the cars are modified but most are FAR from excellent condition. What is the reason for the seemingly high prices? Is there something that I'm missing about these cars? I might be able to deal with (maybe) a little over NADA but 3-4 times the amount seems very unreasonable.

What's the deal?

Thats what you have to pay if you want a clean Fox now, they're starting to get older and people hold the value of the car higher than what the book says. Now I'm starting to see good '99 GTs going for 4k, because they're not new anymore but they're not "old" either.

They aren't exactly making any more Foxes, so finding one AT ALL in even half-decent shape is kinda hard, so anyone that has one will charge a pretty penny for it.

What I don't understand is why, when I tried selling teh Notch a couple of years ago, I couldn't even get anyone to cough up $2,000 for the thing, but yet I'm seeing people selling hatchback AOD Foxes in worse shape with fewer mods going for $3,000. Oh well. Saved me from having one major future regret, so now I won't be kicking myself in the arse forever for selling this one like I did after I sold my first notch. :nice:

For example....

Here

Another one Seems to be a really nice car that is well taken car of, but the milage. :jaw:

I agree that Red 91, although very well kept is slightly over priced. KBB and NADA figure around 15000 miles per year is normal, so a 1991 could reasonably have 270k...to find one with 89k is something some what rare.

From what I have seen, ok cars are -$4000, nice cars can be found for under $5000 and if you want something very well taken care of with decent miles is going to me $6000 plus.

This is not your normal used car. This is an enthusiast car that is starting to head towards being priced the way many classic and muscle cars are priced. The clean, stock unmolested ones are fetching over $10,000, clean but average stock-ish cars are pulling 4-5k and a well done, tastefully modified (not over the top) car can get $8000 easy. If you are wanting to pay book value for a car, you are looking in the wrong place. You are obviously new to this hobby but if you stick around long enough you will get a feel for the Mustang market. I have no problem paying $4000 for a clean, mostly stock factory 5.0 car with 120,000 miles. There are, however, a ton of people who think "5.0" automatically means "$$$" and are asking $3500 for a ragged out beater. At the same time you have people with a legit $5k car who want $8500. You will have to pick your way through the junk and also weed out the nice ones who think they are at Barrett-Jackson. Somewhere in the middle you will find the right car.

I just bought my 100% rust free, bone stock (except a flowmaster cat back and hurst shifter) 91 LX 5.0 with 100,000 miles on it for 4,000 which I feel was a very reasonable deal. Although I have seen an increase in prices on these cars. I will only buy a car that is unmolested anymore. Make sure you get something that is mostly stock and if its modified, its done well. A nice stock fox I think should get anywhere from 4000-6000 depending on mileage and condition.

well your first problem. your looking on auto stealer. look on craigslist. mustang forums. ect drive around. one will jump out on you. there not cheap anymore. my 89 is now 20 years old and with 44,000 org miles. the price would be up there. i only paid 1,500 for mine bone stock but i STOLE it for that price.

kbb, nada and such do not apply to foxbody stangs. even though they are 20 years old, like quick91lx said, these are enthusiast cars, not just some random early 90's honda or cavalier or something of the like. they were the only car really worth a damn in the 80's/early 90's, hence why they are the only cars from that era priced the way they are (save for buick gn's which go for even more).

I paid 3800 for mine almost 2 years ago with paint peeling (only around edges that were masked for paint) and a leaking sunroof, and a sagging headliner, oh and leaking valve covers, and was in need of almost every sensor under the hood. I was just offered 5,000 cash about a week ago:nice:, but it's not for sale:nice:

Yup, not your normal car market by any means.

I paid $6200 for mine. Far from stock....motor has been rebuilt nicely, newer paint and trim and interior....and the suspension is built to the hilt. I have no clue how many actual miles, the odo reads like 60k. Very very clean though. After looking through the folders of receipts for everything that has been done, I think I got a steal. Came with an extra set of new rims/tires I sold for $900, so I have $5300 in the original purchase.

Sell it to you for $10k. :D

I bought mine with 65k in 05 for $5500. It has 75k on it now, if it was still stock I feel I could get $7500 for it. Both those cars are way overpriced but expect to pay atleast $6000 for a clean fox with decent miles, a lot more for low miles.

a little off topic, but i put my car on craigslist just to see how many/if i get any offers. (mods, my car is by no means for sale, it has sentimental value, this is just a story) just for grins i put the price at 10k. i put together a pretty good ad...huge list of parts and such, lots of pics, even a video clip. i had a guy email me saying you can get a legit 93 cobra with less than 100k for under $10k and offered me $4k. i laughed and explained what was up and went on. just today, i had some guy email me and ask if it was still for sale and offered me $9k  provided everything i listed in the ad was legit, which it is. i guess long story short, these cars are worth what someone is willing to pay.

Exactly. Its all about the buyer and the timing.

A low mileage original is worth more.

A car that has alot of rebuild and tasteful mods is prob worth more.

The rest....prob no more than $5k in most markets I'd say.
