Procharger vs. Vortech

I'm not looking into a supercharger, but my friend with a V6 mustang is. I told him that Vortech makes the best superchargers, but he found a really good deal for a Procharger kit. So are there any real draw-backs with the Procharger?

It also says it comes with a custom tuned computer chip, could he trust that or should he get it dyno-tuned anyway?

Also, any advantage of the 3-core intercooler over the 2-core?

Sorry for asking all of these questions here, but V6 forums are somewhat crappy.

Prochargers have a good reputation of making BIG power. Larocca's use Procharger, among many other Renegade guys. I think they have a great reputation. I'm not sure about the intercooler. The 3 core probably delivers a cooler charge than a 2 core.

For the money he's going to dump into a supercharger, why doesn't he sell his car, and save the money for a supercharger and buy a V8 stick car? It would cost about the same.

Yea, what he said. I have a Procharger on my car. It's a p-1sc. Happy with it so far. ATI's tech line leaves a little to be desired though.

Installation is a little tougher with a ProCharger, the instructions kinda suck, and the tech line isn't that great. But once that baby is on and running, they make some killer power.

The 3-core is made for more power but one thing I don't like about my 2-core is it seems to rob boost since the piping is smaller around the intercooler vs. the 3-core. For example, I'm pullied for 14 psi but never see above 11 psi because of the intercooler.

I love my ProCharger though, I've run 13.1 @ 110 on street tires and this is through a stock AODE.

If he gets a deal on the Pro, than go for it. Vortechs are tried and true, there is much support around (both from Vortech and many others who own them). As said above, installation is the main difference.

In terms of performance and reliabilty, you cannot lose either way.

NOW...if it's one of those vs. Powerdyne, then you have a completely different question at hand.

I like the Procharger alot, no need to cut a hole in the oil pan like the Vortech. The Procharger has its own self contained oiling system.

Yeah thats the only Issue I can see w/ the Procharger VS the Vortech but the fact that you dont have to tap the oil pan makes up for that. You will see more boost/HP w/ a 3 core intecooler VS a 2 core so its worth the upgrade.

There were Issues w/ Procharger head units leaking but they have seemed to work out all those bugs. I think alot of it came from people over filling the head units. Paxton, Vortech and ATI all make good supercharges so you cant go wrong w/ either but the Procharger is the only one that comes w/ an Intercooler

I prefer the battery back there, and it can be done for $50 and a hour or so of your time, summit sells the kit. For the little bit of extra work, Id go Procharger, if not Procharger, then Paxton.

If its for a six, there is no battery relocation issue with either kit. Personally, I like the Prochargers power output better (~100rwhp gain) than the Vortech, but the Vortech tuner kits are damn cheap. I really like my Vortech...tapping the oil pan is blown out of proportion waaay too much. Its not hard at all, you just need to be careful and pack the tap with grease to catch the metal pieces. If I were to mount up an intercooler to my setup, it'd make every bit as much power as the ATI when pullied for the same boost.

Basically, either kit will make good, reliable power when its tuned correctly.

Speaking of the tune, ditch the chip they give you. In fact, I would buy the tunner kit anyways b/c it should be cheaper and you'll need to get your own chip. I say that b/c their chips aren't nearly as good as those tuned by people who do it day in and day out for each individual application. I got my chip, inj, fuel pump and MAF through Justin @ www.velocitymustangperformance.com These are all things your friend will need to keep his engine happy. He uses SCT software which is some of the best in the business and I personally vouch for that b/c I ran my car before I installed the chip and afterwards. The diff was truly night and day. Not had a chance to get on the dyno yet, but the car itself runs like a top. Not a complaint to speak of.

Vortech @10PSI
Power Pipe
Intake
TB
MAM
Ugraded FUEL
and Tuning.

IM sure about 100 of that was the Vortech/Powerpipe.

would be interesting to see what somone picks up in power w/ a P-1SC 3 core intercooler w/ a 9# pully, along w/ the basic upgrades like the TB MAM fuel and tuneing VS what you got w/ the Vortech w/ a 150HP Increase.
