progress on intake polishing PICS

well the stock intake i bought on ebay came a couple of weeks ago, just thought i would post an update. here is the stocker incase you have forgotten

and then my progress so far. i got most of the powdercoating off, and modified a few things. whatcha think?

just spent 900 on tires and next week another 850 goes to the wheels so i just wanted a super cheap way to brighten it up under the hood.

i've probably got 3 or 4 hour into it so far, but a long way to go. i can't work on it very often(see last photo) but hopefully i get it done in a couple of weeks or so.

just spent 900 on tires and next week another 850 goes to the wheels so i just wanted a super cheap way to brighten it up under the hood.

When you love your car you shouldn't have to explain anything that you do to it... It looks good , you can always get it ported later and still have a very nice intake capable of supporting over 300 hp and still have good low end.

I just happen to have a Cobra intake ready to install on mine. I would like to polish it too. I had it hot tanked and then bead blasted on the inside. The outside is very clean, but the hot tank left it sort of a light tan color. Can you tell me/us the process you have used on it so far. I, for one, am very interested. I am thinking of doing my Cobra the same way.

so far i have been just sanding, using every kind of disc, pad, wheel, and paper you can imagine. once i get all the powder coat off, and am satisfied with the modifications, i will begin working my way up in sandpaper numbers until i get to 1000. then let the buffing begin!!!

Looks good so far...I think anything polished looks GREAT on a yellow car.

easier being the key word, there was no way i was going to try to sand/polish down in those grooves

It might look nicer, but I have a feeling those ribs helped the intake dissipate heat. They are like cooling fins on your motocycle's cylinder heads.

i figured that is what they were for, but they couldn't have made much difference. i was thinking about putting a phenolic spacer in which would at least cancel it out

I don't think he should have paid much more than 50 bucks for it....I paid 250 for my ported and polished one, but i think the guy that did all the work probably paid bottom dollar for it, roughly 20 to 30 bucks or so....
