project 3.8 to 3.8 SC 95 stang

project SuperCoupe Engine into the stang..

well here's the deal...my buddy bought a 95 3.8 5 speed stang last monday that needed an oil pump...we put a new oil pump on it and had it running perfect. today the engine built to much pressure and blew it out...

so we have decided that were putting a motor out of a supercoupe in it...called mu buddy and he has a rebuilt one with 0 miles on it for 400 bucks...(getting a deal becase im his buddy) and the supercharger and everything else we need for another 300 (ecu, engine harness) so for 700 we got everything we need

were going to start pulling the motor around 5 tuesday as we both have lifting till then 4....

here is what were starting with...rust free 98k miles with no rust and clear title...

were pulling the 3.8 out after school tuesday...

here are the pics..it will be getting painted ect later on..maybe some 18" bullets!

it still gona be a turd.. supercoupes are slow just like the sn-95 6bangers.. I say 5.0 swap it and cal it a day..

you must of never driven a supercoupe with a stout motor..hell i know for a fact my supercoupe is faster then my 5.0 right now...low 14's there an auto wi th 3.27 gear for the "turd" as you calling it weighing over 3,500 lbs ...

you keep on thinking that there...remember supercoupes weighed about 1,000 lbs more then this lil sn95 here...my supercoupe pulled hard on my dad till h hit 3rd then he slowly pulled away from me...now this with the engine combo going in manily stock heads are touched some and ported 95 blower with 10% overdrive we will se an easy 15lbs of safe boost were good for about 220rwhp and around 330rwtq after we get it tuned...

You don't get out a lot, do you. At it's high point, the Supercoupes made 230hp and 330lbs/ft of torque in stock trim. The only reason they weren't "Mustang" fast, is because they were saddled to a 3,700lb luxobarge MN12 chassis.

Case in point....the early 90's Thunderbirds and Cougars could be had with the exact same 5.0L HO found in the beloved Ford Mustang. But because of the added weight, Automatic Transmission, taller tire profile, highway gearing and IRS rear end, the MN12's were a good second slower than the Stang.

It only stands to reason that with the Supercoupes blown V6 under the hood of the ligher weight, less restrictive drive train of an SN95, there are going to be a lot of surprised (to say the least) 5.0L/4.6L Mustang owners out there.

....Now, that being said. Whether it will all fit is another questions. If I recal, this question came up once before and those who made the attempt had issues with the routing of the plumbing for the intercooler in the narrower Fox/SN95 engine bay. A cowl hood may even be needed to clear the top of the engine. Just might want to consider that before you get too far into it.

X2 to what gearbanger said. Only thing I'll add is 3700 lbs was a no options 5-speed SC. Add a sunroof, upgraded stereo, leather (power seats), automatic - they were pushing 4,000 lbs!

The SC platform will be real torquey. I'm not familar with the 5-speed that the sn-95 6-bangers got, but I wouldn't plan on it living very long. Good luck with the swap though.

yup....we start pulling the engine out today...its been done before but only by a few people that ive seen...ill let ya know how that goes.

it will be fast...and very fun...after we get it running..hopping to drop the motor in friday and hav it running late saturday night or sunday morning...(we got to make the SC winring harness work with it...knock sensor and such that i dont belive the 95 stang harness has...

yanked the engine out today...took about 2 1/2 hours from start to finish....we made a mess

all went well and smooth...pretty easy pull..

I'm doing this for my brother as a surprise present for his birthday on 9/15. I'll be finishing installing the engine in his 96 3.8 5speed vert this weekend.

which year model sc engine are you using?? 89-93 or 94-95?? personally, I'm using a 93 engine as that's what I had around.

had to swap the timing cover, harmonic balancer, get a flywheel for it, a pilot bearing...not to mention swapping everything over from the mustang's 3.8...

oh and go ahead and re-use the harness from the mustang engine and sell the harness/ecu from the supercoupe and use the money to get a chip for the mustang ecu....sooo much easier.

I'm also realizing that it's a PAIN in the arse to have the intercooler tubes bolted to the engine while trying to get it back in the car hahahah

edit: oh yeah, um, why did you cut the exhaust behind the cats when all you had to do was unbolt them?? no impact gun or anything??

from a 35th...(1990) rebuilt with zero miles on it...me and the guy who my buddy bought it off of rebuilt it in fen of this year..ported 93 blower ect...should be good for 220 to the wheels...

yeah i know...all the acc. are off the olf motor..new motor is sitting at his garage drying(painted it) dont even ask the colors...there far out there lol...wait till i get a pic... nah were ussing the SC ecu..reason..its programed to pull timming up top to prevent detanation like the 3.8 SC motors are know for blowing head gaskets.....

should be good for a high 13 when were all done with the stok SC motor

and i have a whole parts car at my disposely if i need anything else so were good to go!

oh we also powerwashed the engine bay...looks pretty good now.....ill have some new pics for ya thursday

you know the new felpro head gaskets get past the gasket blowing problem...

not only that but the sc engines still are cronic with blowing gaskets on stock ecu...

yes and no....biggest thing is you need a very free flowing exhaust.
