Pros/Cons of different Exhaust types

I've been trying to find a decent answer to the differences between X/Y/H Pipes. Could anyone please give me a good explanation considering I know nothing about mechanics?

I bought mine used and it's a 2005 V6 with dual exhaust. Single Muffler on the right side. Any ideas what this could be? (images attached)

a pic of the underbelly would help out.. but looks like a dual set up, is it coming off a "Y" pipe? i'm guessing it is, its the cheap quick way to do a v6. i haven't heard "h" pipes on a v6 in person, i've only ran true dual straight pipes, no "h" or "x" and it turns out great.
