Pullies...Whos got what combo...race crank?

Ok...when I had my 91 gt I put underdrives on it and it made a big difference, but the only thing I didnt care for was the fact that with the underdrives on the alt. you never get the volts unless you upgrade the alt. So what Im contiplating with the coupe is to run either underdrives and dont put on the alt pulley, or run a race crank pulley but I have read these are not good for street use. So what combo of pullies do you run?

I use the auto specialities. $80 from CJ Pony parts and I didn't use my alt. pulley

Run the standard underdrive crank, overdirve water and get a 3G upgrade using the STOCK pulley.

Race crank pullies are not for street use...

Underdrives on crank and water pump with electric fan and Powermaster 140 alt.
No issues here with battery drain or cooling.

What effect will underdrives have on a 3G alt.. i.e. just how much will they reduce the voltage & amperage?

I dont see the point in underdriving the alternator. When Car Craft or whoever had that fan shootout years ago on the engine dyno, they decided to see how much power the alternator took and it was like 2 horsepower if I remember right. I see drag cars without them all the time but they need every last horsepower usually and it's less weight for them.

I think the pulley would only do anything if it's lighter really, I cant see much gain in underdriving something that dosent take much power to begin with.

After some playing around, I got this combo to work well:

eletric fan

3" race crank

underdrive water pump pulley + 180 thermo

ASP overdrive alternator pulley

3G alternator upgrade

I run all of the MAC underdrives on an old battery with the stock alternator and I have had no problems in over a year now. If you're going to have charge issues it's not because the car was idling for 5 minutes at 8 volts. The starter cranking at over 250 amps draw pulls a lot more out of the battery than idling.

I ran underdrives for awile and my car always ran hot. I'd like to run just a standard underdrive crank with all other pullies stock. Anyone know what size belt to use?
