i'm putting another new belt on my car tomorrow and i'm almost ready for the new engine to go in. sooooo i was thinking, why not bypass the IC and run the boost from the blower right to the TB for a while. i'd be at about 14 psi and i can richen up my tune a LOT. are there any downsides to possible blowing my engine? all i'm using off the old engine is the heads.
think i should try it?

I'd say no..... but that's just me.

Why are you doing this again? Why not just up the boost? I would think a few more pounds through the intercooler would be safer than no intercooler at all.

Running lean makes the engine really hot, which causes detonation. Running high boost without an intercooler makes the engine really hot, which causes detonation. Am I right?

right.
i dont have a real reason behind it. i just thought pushing 14 lbs may be fun for a few minutes till teh engine blows.

I supose you could do that if you'd like.....but your ACT sensor is probably going to sense the temperature increase and just retard the timing at the top end to compensate and you're not going to see as much power as you may think......but you'll still make plenty of heat and in all likelyhood still probably **** the engine.......so I guess two out of three ain't bad! :nice:

You wont gain anything by bypassing the IC. Just be WAY harder on your engine, and you will probably blow it up. Its definatly possable that your heads will be damaged.

So when the new engine goes in, how much boost you going to send through her?

yea, im gonna say with bad idea. im selling my short block when i put in my new engine. then again mine only has 12,000 miles so ill get some cash for it. maybe you should consider the same.

If it's in good shape, why ruin it. There are dozens of '96-'98 Mustang owners and '94-'97 MN12 owners crying for a good used PI engine every day. If you've got money to burn, then have at it. Otherwise, you're looking at an easy $1,500 in your pocket if you sell it. Doesn't make sense to abuse it.

You're sounding an awful lot like that kid that throws the empty pain can into the fire place because he wants to hear the bang. He knows its wrong and that he shouldn't do it, but he just can't help himself.
