Quad Shock Bolt Stuck...any ideas?

Many remove the quad shocks and there are tons of posts about people ditching them for wider wheels, flipping them around, etc. I'm trying to flip mine around for the same reason - larger tires/wheels. My problem is that I can't get the bolt out! I've gotten the rear-most nut off, but I can't get the bolt out of the part by the wheel. I've sprayed it w/ WD-40 multiple times, tried a breaker bar over a 15mm wrench (the wrench doesn't fit perfectly, but it's the only size that fits. I've also put the impact on it pushing 120psi. Not only that, but I got the torch out and heated it up and then used the impact at 120psi and it still won't break loose!

Not real sure what to do at this point. How did you guys get yours off?

Mine came out first shot... but I have a beast of an impact gun :-x I did however have a problem with a kmember bolt once and I used a bolt thread solvent thats supposed to go into the threads and break it loose... then i hit it with a torch then followed it up by hitting it with the impact gun and it came right out.

I wouldn't say it's rusted a lot, but it is kinda brownish - not sure if it's rust or what. Anyway, I've soaked it in WD-40, which is penetrating oil. I held the torch on it for a good 2-3 min. straight and the impact wrench is a craftsman pushed by a Craftsman 30 gal 150 psi tank at 120 psi and it wouldn't even budge.

I had the rear up on jacks (one under the diff. and one under the control arm and one jack stand, but the car was held up mostly by the jacks. Anyway, I had my head/body under the drivers rear wheelwell (I knew it was stupid when I did it) and I was pushing on a wrench and it pushed the car and it started falling and I had to get out real fast and the jack turned sideways, but the car is fine and I am too. The bad part is that my mom was 10 ft away on a riding lawnmower and didn't notice a thing. If I would have yelled, she prob. wouldn't have heard me and the jacks are POS's (the thing that brings the hydrallic arm thing back up is broken on two of them) anyway, so she prob. wouldn't have been able to get them to work.

It scared me enough that I'm gonna go buy a nice shop jack next weekend where I won't have to pump 15 times to get the car up and maybe a little better quality than the 20 yr old one we have or the other 2 cheap ones I got at wal-mart.

Yes sir, I'm pushing bolt towards the back of the car, which should be loosening it since it's the opposite way. The impact was on reverse. Thanks though.

yeah, I didn't notice that when I went to replace a set and couldn't figure out why it was so damn tight, then I noticed it was welded.

I just want to address this again because I'm not sure the point was clear.

There is a nut on one side and a bolt on the other. It's hard to tell them apart. If you're trying to back the nut off it will never come out. Take a good look at it and make sure you are working on the bolt. :nice:

lol yeah, I could see how it could be confusing; I had to look at it twice myself, but I did notice that the nut was welded and didn't try to remove it. I'm trying to remove the Bolt, turning towards the rear of the car from the inside. I don't know what the deal is. I could break it loose if there were more room, but that's the problem; the location.

I'll get at it again next weekend.

Again, Thanks for all of the responses, and thanks 89MustangGX for making sure I'm on the right track. :hail2:

Seems to me that the bolt head would probably break off if you were using a high powered impact. This has been my experience anyway. I am probably way off base, but MAYBE you have the low end crafstman that is only rated at 250lb? I had that gun and sometimes it had problems getting lug nuts off!! Definetally wouldn't do any kind of chassis bolt that was corroded. Anyway, now I have some badass 1000lb in reverse one that is supposedly used for f1 pit crews. Also, if your gun is not rated for 120psi you probably blew the teflon off of the gears.

There is some stuff called Super Oil. There have been some bolts that an impact, breaker bar with a cheater pipe can't take off without Super Oil. I know you can buy it at Oreilly's.

On another note my car does not have Quad Shocks. Would not having Quad shocks cause my rear end to twist under acceration? Something strange is happening back there and it's not my car just peeling out.
