Question about C/C plate install

Is this necessary even if you are replacing the factory struts with aftermarkets?

Step 1. Before dismantling anything on your car, lay a straight edge across the fenders and measure down to the top of the strut shaft. Record this dimension, you will need it later. (end quote)

Why you need it later:
Step 24. If the car is lowered from stock, position the spacers so that the top of the strut shaft is higher than the dimension recorded in step 1 by the same amount the car is lowered. Example: If the car is lowered 1.25" from stock, position the spacers so that the strut is 1.25" higher than the measurement recorded in step 1.

Regardless of using old or new shocks, you still need to position the top of the strut correctly.

So yes, you do need that measurement.

Thanks. I was not sure about the measurement because the struts are different brands and they may be a different overall length, and I was not sure if that measurement comes into play or not?

Overall length should be similar. In any event, the critical measurement is how far the top of the strut is from the top of the fender. That will determine how many spacers you need above and below the plate.

BTW, when you install them, make sure you remove the socket from the top of the strut before you close the hood. Ask me how I know...

Good point . Another good tip is to make sure your wiper arms are down against the glass before opening the hood. Ask me how I know..
