Whatta ya guys think about choosing the right CAM? What would you go with knowing my set-up. Im probably never going supercharger/Turbo or NOS-i would like to keep it all engine, All opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks-Anthony:nice: :flag:

Anthony - with all the $ you've put into the other bits, seems a shame to more or less 'guess' on the camshaft. It's arguably the most important part of the whole piece. Why not pay a few $ more and have one of the pros help you with the cam? They'll model your set up and design the cam with your components/wishes in mind so you'll have a real good idea of exactly how it's gonna perform when you fire it up.

Jay Allen, Ed Curtis and Buddy Rawls (and Greg at XSR) all have good reputations on the boards. Buddy did mine -- very pleased with the results.

Forgot to mention suspension mods as well-
Being its a vert, The previous owner had Maximum Motorsports upgrades installed-
-Strut tower brace
-Lower K member brace
-Subframe connectors

P.S. PA Performance Hi-Torque mini starter and wire upgrades.

those items are nice, but won't have much to do with your cam choice. You can check out www.flowtechinduction.com for Ed Curtis' information; I think custom cams from Ed run around $325ish + new valve springs if you choose to get those

I've got a buddy that runs that cam in an X-headed, gt40 intake'd motor in an MGB. He's happy with it I believe -- and knocking down 25-26 mpg on the highway.

However, you could live with less torque converter as it's gonna make pretty good punch down below 3000 rpm.

But -- I think you're still guessing Ant.....

The other thing Ant -- that cam is pretty heavily exhaust biased (for the stock e7's) and your AFR's probably don't need that. Once again -- have your combo modeled by a pro so you get what you want to help you achieve the results your after. As for cost - all you have to do is guess wrong on the cam one time -- and you will have SAVED money by going custom.

I have a buddy that has a used (very low miles) FTI cam that was set up for an AFR-headed combo much like yours. Email me at [email protected] if you'd like me to put you in touch with him.

Actually the TQ converter is set @ 2840 to be exact. Whatta ya think-Now Mike? Still too much converter... maybe then-I should leave the cam alone and just swap the heads. i had the converter custom for the upgrade of the heads to begin with-So its all dialed in already before hand-Without the cam...

Torque converter rpm is a function of the whole package - not just the heads. And most would tell you it's more a function of the cam choice than anything else. So selecting the cam to match the converter can be done, but it's kind of bass-ackwards.

However -- that points even more to the benefits of having someone actually model your set up so you don't have to try and guess about the cam.
