My brother has a 1981 Notch that was originally equipped with a 4.2. He was told that he will not be able to use the original K member in his car. He has a 302 and a 351 and wants to know, can he use it or does he need to find a newer K member? Thanks

I always thought the 4.2 was just a emissions raped, small bored 302... I believe a 302 would fit right in it's place with no problem..

I thought the same thing. He has been hesitating on the engine install because he was told different. If it can stay, then that's great

the 4.2 is a v8. my friend had a 79 with a inline 6 and a v8 would not go in it. he was told to get a v6 k member and it would work

He can use the original k-member and it will be just fine. 4 cylinder and V-8 k-members are the same. The inline 6 k-member is the oddball----it can also be modified for use with a V-8 but with plenty of other choices around I don't know why you would.

The Inline-6 K-member is the onl k-member that wouldn't work.

All the V6, 4-banger and V8 k-members are pretty much the same part

Thanks so much. You all are so helpful. This info will make him so happy. I sensed he was considering selling the car. This info ought to get him inspired .
