Hello. I have a 99 GT convertible with an automatic transmission and there is a whining coming from my rear dif. Any pressure on the gas at all will make the gears whine pretty much at any speed (it's way more noticeable though at highway speeds), and letting off the gas and coasting will stop the whine. My rear end is completely stock but my question is.. does a whine normally indicate it is about to go out? are the gears grinding themselves up back there or is it something I can possibly fix without rebuilding the entire backend. If not it's no problem, because i'll just go ahead and put 4.10's back there but I just want to get a feel for the problem. What would you recommend? Thanks, Dan.

well you can go ahead and order your 4.10's ( i would do this whine or no whine) and the install kit with pinion and carrier shims. because you need pinion bearings, and to do the pinion bearings is a total rear end rebuild, so you might as well do the 4.10's you wanted now.
