I found a dealer that says I can order a GT using the x plan pricing. The only catch is they want a $500 non refundable deposit. My question is can they really keep my money if something happens and I don't buy the car?

Also when I give them a check for the deposit do they hold it until the car comes in or do they cash it right away? :bang:

Hope to order a Silver GT with Red interior :D

They say it is non refundable, but I have heard about people on this forum getting their deposit back if they found a car elsewhere. When I gave my deposit to the dealer they had it cashed the next day. I hope that helps and good luck with the car  .

the reasson for our $1000 non refundable deposit is to insure you ae a serious buyer. without it people could come in and order cars they never intended on picking up or as insurance that they would get their car if they couldn't find one on another lot or at a discount. it screams commitment. if the car arrives damaged, not what you ordered or later than promised, then we gladly return htat deposit.

I can see that. Do the dealers normally cash the check right away like in the insistence of Szlachcic above or do they hold the check until the car comes in?

And for me it is hard to trust a dealer when they are famous for lying to you just to get you in the door. I understand that not every dealer is that way but I am from Austin TX and it appears that is the way of live around here.

I can't speak for other states, but I know that in GA a non-refundable deposit is illegal. That didn't stop one dealer from telling me that he required a $2000 non-refundable deposit to order a 05 stang. I went elsewhere.

Many years ago I ordered a 1987 stang, and changed my mind. Dealer told me he was keeping my $500 deposit. When I showed up in person to get the money it only took him 5 minutes to get me a check.

I don't think they will have much problem selling your stang if you change your mind.

yes we wuld cash the check.
since all the previous posts have dissapeared, i will say this again:
1.make sure you find a salesperson you trust at a dealer you trust.
2.love the car enough to expect to pay msrp, but there are discounts out there if you are wiling to travel.
3.if the dealer doesn't give you a signed agreed upon worksheet and priority 10, walk away. ( see #1)

I know that with most escrow laws they require the dealer/realtor to cash the check within 48 hrs. I am sure the same applies to a dealer as with a Realtor since the deposit is same.

Escrow simply means that they hold your money for you to have a specific purpose.

I would expect them to cash, non refundable part I do not know.
