Question about re-calibrating the speedometer.

I've got a stock 98 3.8 and I picked up some 98 cobra rims they are 17 inch does anyone know how to calibrate the speedometer w/o taking it somewhere to be done, or can it only be done through the computer?

if you go to some tire shops they will tell you if the tire will mess up anything or not.

If you get the right tires, you dont need to recalibrate your speedometer.

I believe that the little amount that you are talking about will not even be noticeable.

If I am not mistaken you can run 245/45 without a change.

17 inches won't make a noticable difference. And on a 98 the speedometer is controled by a gear in the tailshaft of the tranny which would need replacing, but there is nothing for that kind of change, the computer doesn't control the speedo.

Just go to web-cars.com/math/tiresize and use their calculator. Just enter your old and new tire sizes to determine if you need to make any corrections.

And if you do want to change the speedo needle, get a friend to pace you while the pod face is off. Remove the needle stop on the Speedo gauge, get to a nice highway speed and gently place the needle back onto the spindle. Have another friend sit in the passenger seat and watch out for you while you're playing with the needle.

Ok id have to say to not do the above Just get over it. its like a .07% difference if you go to a 245/45/17. Nothing noticeable
