Question for you guys that have done TKO conversions

When you pushed the cross member back on the mounts, did it affect your pinion angle to output shaft relation any? I ask because my oil pan is really close to the K member, and shimming the TKO's tail shaft up a little would likely buy me some much needed space.

In the fox chassis I typically do not need spacers to level the trans out any to fix the angle, the 94+ cars almost always need a spacer to put the trans in the proper position.

Do you think I will cause any vibrations or bad drive line angles by shimming it up a little? Is there a way I can measure this without a pinion angle tool?

It may or may not. I am going through this right now....I have found out though that most use the auto crossmember and there is no mods needed for it....

Only true way to know angle is with a angle finder, you can get one cheap at Lowes or any hardware store.

As far as the trans go, it depends on motor location, once you bolt the trans in you want the tail housing as level as possible in the car, if it needs shims shim it!. Most chassis builders motors at a 2.5 degree back angle, Ive never measured a stock set-up to be honest...

You be surprised how many guys never even check anything and just bolt it in...

I may have to get one and check it then. It looks fine, the only reason I want to mess with it, is to get a little more clearance between my oil pan and the K member.

Thanks

Put spacers between the engine block and mounts if needed to gain a little clearance ;)

Not sure that will help me.

I took a stab at it with my cutoff wheel. Amazingly I didn't hit the pan (amazingly b/c my hands normally shake like a crackhead when I am doing sensitive stuff). It might be hard to make out, but I was able to section either end of the lip on the K, and then I pushed it back with my hammer and punch.

It doesn't look like much, but it has a LOT more room now then what it did.
