Well it's time to shop for a new clutch for my daily driven 89. It's pretty much stock now, but I plan on doing a Tmoss / Thumper combo in the next year or so. I am considering a King Cobra clutch. Would it be a good choice? I want a clutch that will engage smoothly, and not be like an on/off switch. The car is not raced, just occasionally driven hard.

it's just like any other aftermarket clutch kit, it's much better than stock, imo, i've got one in my car, but regardless of which one you choose, putting boost to it will make the clutch wear faster.

while we're on that subject, it might be a good idea to get a better flywheel-the stock unit is far from the best when it comes to high hp applications, and since the friction surface is fairly thin compared to most aftermarket flywheels, it has a greater tendency to get stress cracks from all the heat...

Yep. I installed a king cobra, the engage to disengage difference in the pedal is a lot shorter from stock but once you get used to it it's very easy to gradually release off the clutch.. When I take off at a light I rev the car to 2k and gradually ease off the clutch and have no problem doing so slowly.

never had a stock clutch in my car but my i like the king cobra better than i like the centerforce that i had in it before. the only problem i have with the kit that you can buy is the t/o bearing. its been in the car for about 15k miles and its already bad. it doesnt make any noise but it makes the pedal vibrate really badly.

Ive been through 3 king cobra clutches and havn't had a problem with the t/o bearing., but thats not to say all of them are good. My pedal pressure is stiff as hell, Im going to put a stock quadrent and cable back on and see if that helps

I agree, mine is pretty stiff. Nothing unbearable, but if you had to sit in traffic with it, it would be a PITA.

I do that every day, if it looks like I'll sit in one place for a very long time I just put it in neutral. To tell you the truth my stock clutch felt just as stiff as my King Cobra, but even stock it always felt stiffer than other stangs I drove.

KC for me too...

Works fine not hard at all...Drove a Ford heavy duty setup and thought it was stiff as "ell"....KC not nearly as bad...IF it's hard or has a high pedal effort replace your clutch cable, most of the drag is in the cable...

Put mine in with a new cable and no problems...

I never sit with my foot on the clutch anyway. I always put it in neutral when I come to a stop. My stock clutch has always been pretty stiff. I prefer a stiff pedal over a light one. I just installed a MM quadrant, firewall adj. and new Ford cable. The adj. is screwed all the way in so there is no more adjustment when my clutch wears down more. I can't complain though, my stock clutch has lasted 190,000 miles. It is not slipping at all, it is just very worn. Looks like a King Cobra is the way to go for me.

it's a good daily driver clutch, i like mine, but uas others have said pedal effort is a little hard, but not all that bad from stock, i need to adjust my clutch cable though as it's catching very high now

btw, it like launches at 4k ;), we'll see ...... maybe 5k next time out
