Alright guys I am getting very antsy waiting for these VTs to come in. My question is about the comp xe262ah cams. I have heard that you need to replace the springs and that you don't have to. Those that say you do point to the duration of the cams. So which is it do you need them or not?

I was thinking about the xe262ah cams myself. Searched posts for the answer, new springs or not new springs. I've never seen a reply, by someone who used the stock springs. .That would be usefull. With an auto you don't want to rev beyond 6,000rpm on the stock transmission anyway, or internal tranny damage could result. Everyone pretty well knows they are recommended. So do you really need better springs? I dunno. Probably better to err on the side of caution.

You might wanna get a high stall torque converter first. You lose some bottom end with the cams, and with an auto you really want as much low end torque as you can get. Added to whats in my sig, I just installed an off road x-pipe and did the J-mod. 3200 rpm stall torque conveter is next, then maybe cams. The high stall torque converter will make the cams a lot more effective.

The converter is the last piece i want to get. I don't want to go buy one and then turn around and have to get another one a year later because i decided to go in another direction. If i decide to leave it as is i am going to call PI and have them recommend one for me based on my mods. There is way too much that goes into converter selection for me to attempt to order one myself. I will let the experts handle that. It will definitely be 3000+ stall though.

I figure the 4.10s are going to make a huge difference over the stock 3.27s and will help make up for what little bottom end i will lose with either the VTs or the comps. I will have it tuned so i shouldn't lose too much. I can deal with losing a little torque down low for the gains up high.

It seems like quite a few are running the VT stg 1s on stock springs but i haven't heard too much about the 262's. The duration is what I am worried about. I'm not sure having the springs pressed down that hard that long is a good idea. I could be wrong about this though that is why I am trying to get someone to help clear this up. I won't be doing the install myself as i have nowhere to do it (the sohc install scares me for some reason anyway) so springs or no springs makes a rather large difference in install price which is the whole reason for this question. This whole question is moot if VTs cams actually come in by the 31st but i am ready to pull the trigger on the comps if need be as i want to get this done asap.

Csledd let us hope so i have been waiting for 3 1/2 months almost now.

Now i'm a bit of an idiot on this subject. Are you guys talking about stage one cams??? Sorry for the dumb Q.

We are talking about vt stg 1s and comp xe262ah's. Putting stage numbers in front really doesn't tell you much other than it is company x's mild street cam, street/strip cam, etc., etc. The specs on the cams really tell the whole story. The 262's (comp's stg 1s) for example are blower friendly and the vt stg 1s are not. This is due to the difference in LSA (lobe separation angle) if i am not mistaken. So lift, duration, and lsa are all important things to consider when choosing a cam for your setup not just whatever name the company that sells them slaps on them. Hope that helps.
